Description

LifeLab is a simulation to experiment with cellular automata and, in particular, John Conway's Game of Life.

A cellular automaton is a simulation that uses simple and locally defined rules to determine how the state of the system progresses. The cellular automaton called "Life" was invented by mathematician John Conway as a way to demonstrate how complex behavior can arise from very simple rules. You can use this app to see many of the complex behaviors available not only to "Life" but also experiment with alternate rules.

With LifeLab you can change the birth and survival rules, use a palette of existing patterns to make scenes, change the speed, pause and step through the simulation. Zoom in and out of the main board area to control the detail with which patterns are placed into the scene.

When LifeLab starts a different random field demonstrating some of the aspects of the Game of Life will be displayed. The user can experiment as desired.

LifeLab comes with comprehensive help.
