Ivan the Fool (Russian: Иван-дурак, diminutive: Иванушка-дурачок) (pronounced ee-VAN doo-RAK in English) is a character of Russian folk tales, a very simple-minded, but nevertheless lucky young man, a character found in folklore of many peoples. His simplicity and lack of guile often cause him to be the recipient of mystical gifts as a reward, and commonly he marries a princess at the end of the story.
Leo Tolstoy wrote a short story discreetly supporting communism using Ivan the Fool as a stock character.
