Description

Study in Scarlet is a mystery novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and published in July 1887 by Ward, Lock & Co. This first novel in the series needed to pass a year to be published, taking its author 25 pounds for all rights of the text. He is recognized for being the first novel featuring the character Sherlock Holmes, who later convetiría one of the greatest icons of the detective story. This edition was illustrated by the father of Arthur Conan Doyle. In principle, Conan Doyle named his book A tangled skein. After several rejections, he saw his work published by Ward Lock & Co. in Beeton's Christmas Annual in 1888. The first American edition was published in 1890 by J. B. Lippincott Co.

Esta primera novela de la serie necesitó que pasase un año para ser publicada, cobrando su autor 25 libras esterlinas por todos los derechos del texto. Se le reconoce por ser la primera novela en figurar el personaje de Sherlock Holmes, quien más tarde se convetiría en uno de los más grandes íconos de la novela policíaca. Esta edición fue ilustrada por el padre de Arthur Conan Doyle. En principio, Conan Doyle tituló a su obra Una madeja enmarañada. Tras varios rechazos, vio su obra publicada por Ward, Lock & Co. en Beeton's Christmas Annual en 1888. La primera edición norteamericana se publicó en 1890 por J. B. Lippincott Co.
