The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a famous 1900 children's novel written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by his friend and collaborator W.W. Denslow.

The design of the book was lavish for its time, with illustrations on every page, page backgrounds in different colors, and several color plate illustrations.

The story chronicles the adventures of a girl named Dorothy in the Land of Oz.

Thanks in part to the 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical film, starring Judy Garland, it is one of the best-known stories in American popular culture.

The book has been translated into more than forty different languages.
