Description

This app is the first full-fledged kanji practice for people learning Japanese as a foreign language. It is based on the teaching and research experience in the Japanese program for international students at Osaka University and is produced in collaboration with Now Production.

A total of 1,125 kanji words(including 1,023 kanji) encompassing the scope of JLPT N5 to N2 will be learned in 66 Units.
The syllabus helps learners to read and write kanji by listening and reading them from texts. All texts can be produced in the form of synthesized voice even in an offline mode.
In addition, the handwriting recognition function in Writing Practice enables learners to practice stroke order and kanji writing.
This app is not only limited to self-taught purpose, but is also applicable as a classroom material. To achieve maximum efficacy, it is recommended that learners or instructors use the app in conjunction with our Kanji textbook that will be published soon.

【Features】
・Learn the stroke order of a kanji by drawing each stroke of a kanji following the red lines on the screen.
・English translations and usages of a kanji will be displayed by pressing the area of the kanji.
・You can listen to the audio text reading via the synthesized voice function (all functions including this can be used offline).
・You can exercise writing kanji by handwriting each kanji on the screen. The handwriting recognition engine will check your handwriting.
・You can also use this app as a kanji dictionary utilizing the “search kanji by handwriting” function.
・A record of questions that were answered incorrectly will be stored automatically so that learners will be able to review it.

【Introduction of the Functions】
・Writing practice
“Writing Practice” provides exercises for stroke order and the writing of Kanji. First, Learn stroke order after choosing Unit and Character. Then write kanji 5times on the screen following the model shown above. A circle (○) will appear when collect. Kanji can be searched by handwriting, by tapping the Search button on the upper right of the screen.

・Practice
In “Practice”, learners may learn to read and write kanji in sentences. Choose writing or reading practice depending on learners’ needs. Each practice contains 5 questions. The voice text reading, display of the translation or the stroke order of a kanji will appear by pressing respective buttons.

・Kanji test
・“Kanji Test” contains 5 reading questions and 5 writing questions for each part of a particular unit.
・As all 10 items are completed, test result will appear in the Result page. Incorrect items can be found in Check List.

・Checklist
・“Check List” stores a record of questions that were answered incorrectly in “Practice”, so that learners will be able to review and practice them again.

・Settings
・You may change the setting of pen color, boldness, sound effect, and whether to place all incorrectly items automatically in Check List. Also, you may alter the gender (female: male) and speed of the audio function.


This application is powered by Panasonic's hand-writing recognition technology.
This application uses a text-to-speech system by Toshiba Corporation.
