Description

Second Moon launched from the British Science Festival in Newcastle upon Tyne UK, on a year-long airfreight journey, from September 2013 to September 2014 and is moving in an anti clockwise direction across the UK, China, Australia and the USA.

Orbiting at approximately twice the speed of our Moon, Second Moon will orbit the Earth 30 times in one year.

Using this App, Second Moon can be tracked in real time and visualised in relation to your location, the Moon’s location and the orbits’ of the other planets in our solar system.

Touch the screen to change viewpoints between Second Moon, The Moon and You, and pinch to zoom in and out, from a view above the Earth’s surface, to beyond the solar system.

Second Moon has been commissioned by Locus+ in partnership with Newcastle University and Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. Supported by Arts Council England, Adelaide Festival, Newcastle City Council, Catherine Cookson Foundation, the Mead Gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Produced by Locus+ with production support from Elmsly. App design by Fraser Muggeridge studios and Supermono.
