Description

According the Einstein's theory of relativity, time dilation is an observed difference of elapsed time between two observers. An observer's clock at rest may be measured to tick at a different rate when compared to a second observer's own clock. The faster the observers go the more dramatic the difference. Tremendous speed slows down the passage of time.

Gravitational time dilation, another prediction of Einstein's theory, is the effect of time passing at different rates in regions with different gravitational forces. The stronger the gravitational force the more slowly time passes.

Imagine you could travel close to the speed of light. How much time would a journey to Pluto take? Upon returning to earth, what date would it be? What would be the difference between your perceived passage of time compared to those on earth? Also, picture yourself standing on a neutron star or the sun, two celestial bodies exerting a powerful gravitational force. How would you feel? How fast would time pass by? You will find the answers to these questions in the functionalities of Time Dilation. This application will help you to grasp more fully the implications of Einstein's discoveries, and you will discover a fascinating aspect of our surrounding physical world: time dilation.

All calculations are based on mathematical equations used in Einstein's theory of relativity.
