Description

High stresses are induced when a load is applied to two elastic solids in contact (line or point). Hertz developed a theory to calculate the contact area and pressure between the two surfaces and predict the resulting compression. Under the action of a load the solids deform and a deformed contact area occurs.
The app computes the geometry of the contact area, deformation of the contact bodies and the Hertzian contact stress.

You can choose between SI units (mm, MPa, N) and imperial units (in, ksi, lbf).

The input data and results can send via email.

Please be aware of the assumptions of the approach by Hertz:
- surfaces are continuous and non-conforming
- strains are small
- solids are elastic
- surfaces are frictionless

The app is optimized for iPhone 3, 4, 4S display and for the large iPhone 5 and 6 Retina displays.

The content of this app has been compiled with meticulous care and to the best of my knowledge. However, I cannot assume any liability for the up-to-dateness, completeness or accuracy of any of the algorithms and data implemented.
