Description

Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) in collaboration with Yayasan Kanker Indonesia (YKI) officially launched its “Spot it Yourself” mobile application providing comprehensive information on early detection of breast cancer.
Through 121 years of meaningful innovations, Phillips continuously aims to help people improve the health and well-being of themselves and their loved ones. The ‘+’ Project, is a great example of how to achieve this aim.. When it first launched The “+’ Project in Indonesia in November 2011, Phillips tapped into the creative thinking behind more than 600 innovative entries to improve the health and well-being of Indonesians.

The breast cancer mobile application from Philips which provides a comprehensive package of information including a “how to” of self-examination, identifying potential symptoms, providing YKI doctors’ opinions, and detailing hospitals that provide mammograms can be downloaded to all mobile operating systems such as Android, Blackberry, Apple and even Symbian. To ensure further accessibility, the new mobile application from Philips is available to the public free of charge.
Through the “Spot it Yourself” application, users are not only able to obtain information, but also connect with other women and YKI’s doctors. Philips intends that this engagement will enable those who have been diagnosed with cancer, to find comfort in knowing that they are not alone.
Breast cancer has become a major cause of morbidity and mortality amongst women in Indonesia. Based on data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2008, the rate is on the rise, with as many as 36.2 new cases (out of every 100,000 women) annually.
