Description

••• Gulf views, sunset cruises, beach bars & cigars •••

The Tampa Bay area offers the best of what Florida is famous for, from white sand Gulf beaches to championship golf courses, cruise ships to canoe trips, microbreweries to major attractions and one-of-a-kind places to bike, hike, dine or unwind. Start the day with a run along Bayshore Boulevard or the Pinellas Trail, ride gravity-defying roller coasters at Busch Gardens or roll the dice at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel casino. Check out some of the South's best chefs, sample some award-winning handcrafted beer or light up a handrolled cigar from a local cigar bar.

Make a night of it in the area's nightclub hub, Ybor City, are call it a night and check into a Four Diamond-rated resort or tuck into a four poster bed at a cozy B&B. This is the home of the world's largest private wine collection, longest continuous sidewalk, largest Spanish restaurant, the only permanent collection of Chihuly glass and the only known after dark animal safari in a theme park in the U.S. but these are just some of the only-in-Tampa Bay experiences that await. Enjoy, explore and get ready to experience some of the best of what Tampa Bay offers.

••• About the Author •••

Relocating from Ohio – in February – to the Tampa Bay area was easy for this then 10-year-old transplant. Throughout my childhood, I enjoyed the attractions, beaches, parks, museums and wonderful weather that make the Tampa Bay area a great place to visit or live. While working as a newspaper reporter for the Tampa Tribune, I gained a new appreciation for how the Tampa Bay area has grown from a rough-and-wild place rich with history and lore, from pirates and Seminole Indians to military troops and railroad tycoons and from first becoming world-famous for cigar factories to its current status as a host to Super Bowls, home to world class cultural facilities, top attractions and "dine-amic" dining scene. Previously as the public relations director for the area’s convention and visitors bureau, I introduced Tampa Bay's treasures and pleasures to journalists from around the world helping to showcase it through major media outlets. After working as a freelance travel writer/photographer while in Berkeley, CA, I returned in 2000 and continue to re-discover all that's here.
