Description

Can a place tell a musical story? Is it possible to move around inside a composition?
What does Kulturkvarteret in Kristianstad, Sweden, sound like when rythmical wingbeats transport you to other worlds?

Around the clock at Kulturkvarteret in Kristianstad: Penelope - a location conscious composition in you headphones by Caroline Leander.

A new journey begins at every moment. Surprises, challenges and rewards may be waiting on the route you take ... You will pass a number of islands, and your steps will represent the nautical miles of your cruise. Set a course and make your choice

The work is based on a simple vocal ostinato, a crooning that is the hub of the whole composition. A tapestry of harmonies and phrases that come and go, and which are transformed and developed, are created around this core. The listener moves around the district and passes six islands, all of which are like individual small pieces that are, however, interlinked. Each listener will have a unique experience of the music, depending on the prevailing weather and wind, the speed at which the listener moves, and what is happening in the listener’s immediate surroundings at that moment. The work concludes only when the circle is again closed and the listener has come back to the starting point.

Welcome into the invisible concert hall presented by Musik i Syd, this time at the opening of Kulturkvarteret in Kristianstad. Make sure your headphones are plugged in so that you can join this rythmical journey inspired by it’s location, a musical experience that changes as you move around affected by your location.
