Description

The ‘Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool’ (‘MUST’) has been developed by BAPEN and is a simple 5-step screening tool that is designed to be used for adults in all care settings. Objective measurements or subjective criteria can be used to calculate the malnutrition risk.

‘MUST’ is specifically designed to be used in all care settings (eg community, GP surgeries, care homes and hospitals). It can be used by any care workers to identify malnutrition and obesity. The risk of malnutrition is then linked to a care plan.

Features offered by the ‘MUST’ app include:
- Entry of weight in kilograms, stones or pounds
- Entry of height in metres, feet or inches
- Easy conversion between units of measure

If height cannot be measured and recently documented height is not available, a facility to estimate height from length of ulna is provided.

Warning messages are provided as a ‘reality check’ when unrealistic values are entered.

Help text is provided where appropriate.

A short guide to using ‘MUST’ is available within the app which also links to the BAPEN website.
