Description

★ Exploring Avedon's Talent ★

Come take a journey with me back in time to the early 1950s, when the talents of that most famous photographer Richard Avedon were still developing, and witness just how he created those immortal images. I assisted him from this period into the mid-1960s, and do I ever have the stories to tell!

Not only does the Assisting Avedon app recall exactly what happened on his most memorable assignments, but it also sums up the very nature of his talent, his personality, and his endless drive to achieve new heights in photography. In addition, there is a large appendix filled with technical information, persons associated with him, biographical data, and lists of just about everything that relates to him.

This app is in no way endorsed by nor associated with the Richard Avedon Foundation.

★ About the Author ★

An amateur photographer since age 12, Earl Steinbicker at age 17 was about to graduate from high school in Allentown, Pennsylvania when he contacted the world-famous photographer Richard Avedon and asked him for a job as an assistant. Miraculously, Avedon said yes and at the end of summer 1952 Earl moved to New York and began his long and close relationship with the master. Aside from time out for military service, this lasted until late 1965, when Earl joined up with another Avedon assistant to form their own studio, Steinbicker/Houghton Inc. In 1979 Earl embarked on a new career as a travel writer, creating the "Daytrips" series of guides for publisher Hastings House. Since 2010 he has been busy creating travel apps for publisher Sutro Media, and has now put together his vivid memories of the Avedon years.
