Description

Technology Innovation is a digital publication of NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate which features cutting-edge innovators and projects across the Agency. It also highlights the American inventors, entrepreneurs and application engineers who have transformed space exploration technologies into products that benefit the nation and the world. The feature articles in this issue highlight a variety of areas in which NASA is advancing its work in robotics: In the ISS, astronauts have an ideal test bed for working with a variety of robotics technologies, enabling the future of human-robot collaboration. Modeled after Lockheed Martin's Skunk Works, an innovative lab at the Kennedy Space Center is investing in surface systems technologies that will support deep space missions. NASA and other government agencies are partnering with universities and research institutions through the National Robotics Initiative to address some of the greatest challenges facing the robotics industry.

Volume 16, number 3, contains four feature articles--
• Onboard Robots
• In the Works
• Big Steps
• A Walk in the Park
--plus short articles on how a Mars rover technology has been adapted for use in logistics tasks in hospitals and how Robonaut software has led to a product called the Neocortex that uses sensing data to create smarter, safer machines.
The issue closes with an "Insight" piece featuring Kim Hambuchen, a Robotics Engineer at the Johnson Space Center.
