Description

Mathemingo is a flexible mathematics game designed for use individually, in small groups or as a class. The four styles of game play (individual, group race, group game and class game) are described in the instructions panel within the game.

Mathemingo is suitable from middle elementary(primary) school age to early middle-school (secondary) school age. Levels are differentiated to allow for students to move through to levels of greater demand as their skills develop. The game will increase mental arithmetic skills and drilling of times tables and other forms of arithmetic.

The game provides 52 different playing cards from simple addition of two single digit numbers to multi-digit division, subtraction, multiplication and addition. With the combination of cards containing the sums and cards alternatively containing the answers, students can continue to learn as they play for many years. The game contains over 1000 equations.

The concept of the game has been developed to ensure that students are not just buried in their own iPad device but are playing as a class or working and communicating in small groups. The individual play is an opportunity to practice the mental arithmetic skills and to challenge oneself through timing the activity.

I have designed this as a teacher for teachers with the understandings of class needs and demands. I have used this activity within my own classes and it has been greeted with a very positive response from students. The enticement of prizes will see to it that students want to play this game whenever they have class and will learn in the process of having fun. Enjoy!
