Description

Defend the Solar System from alien attack!

Zone Warrior is a retro 3D space game, part space flight simulator, part arcade action.

Each level places you at a space station orbiting a planet in our Solar System which you have to defend, initially from space mines hurtling toward your space station. If your space station is damaged you will have to perform a manual docking for which you get points.

Later, alien ships are sent in after you with close space dogfighting action as you battle hoards of marauding alien fighters, intent on vaporizing your ship and laying waste to your space station.

You have laser cannons and a small number of smart missiles. You accumulate missiles as you go through the levels. If you need more fuel, fuel cells are available near the stations which you can collect by flying into them.

You can pause the game by touching the score. From there you can reverse the direction of the controls and change the sensitivity of the accelerometer.

PocketGamer Silver Award: "Zone Warrior is the kind of space opera that should be on everyone's iPhone - smooth, smart and much fun to play."

A fun game, but...

This has the potential to be one of the best games in the App Store, if only it would add some sort of story/campaign mode. It has the feel of some of those older space simulaters like TIE Fighter or X-Wing, and with a story, could be awesome.

As it stands now, it's a very fun, very well designed game with great controls and graphics. I had no problems at all with the control scheme, it felt natural, you manuever the iPhone/Touch around and the ship follows, very smooth, very responsive.

It also has a very satisfying increase in the level of difficulty. Whereas some games here go from easy, to medium to hard in as few as 3 or 4 levels (I'm thinking: Topple), this game gradually increases in difficulty, starting with Space Mine which threaten the station but not you, to raiders and alien ships that have it out for you in amazing numbers.

Which leads me to another complaint, I haven't really played recently because I was showing a friend the game and he mistakenly pressed "New Game" which erased my current progress (said 20+ levels), meaning I had to start back at square one, which is basically a tutorial. A save feature on this game would be very, very nice.

But it is completely worth the $3.99, it's fun and it looks good.

(It does, however, being a 3D game, drain the battery)

Tractor beam on!

Wow, this is the first space shootem-up I've bought that is full 3D - roll, pitch, and yaw. (Some of the other games like SolarBlaster are "on rails" where you really can't fly wherever you want.) Want to see the space station from behind? Fly back there. Want to fly through the spokes of the station? You can.

The game is part Star Wars, part 2001, part .... Asteroids? Like the description says it's part space flight simulator and part arcade.

And something the description doesn't say .... this is a challenging (advanced) game. Besides all the pitching and yawing (sometimes it's easy to get lost and lose your enemies ... I guess I need to figure the radar scanner thing out) you have to bullseye targets from a ways off, and hurry, and deal with enemy ships firing at you, and protect the station from asteroid things, and ... and ... figure out how to dock with your space station if (when) the tractor beam fails.

In short, this is not your little brother's matching game!

Now, if in a future version you could only hyperspace from one planet to another!

Holy Snot!!! This is awesome!!!

If you are looking for a starship game that has great graphics, fun gameplay, a full 3-d playground, and is challenging enough for your mad skills, you have come to the right place. This is the game!!! For four bucks you get a game that is worth all 10 bucks!!! It is highly entertaining to be chasing ships while you are flying through the rings of the space station, while you are being shot at from behind with missiles and laser cannons!!! :) Seven stars to the developers for this marvelous addition to the app store! Keep up the good work!

Oh, and I saw a reviewer who said there was not a place to save, which is 1/2 wrong. I just pause the game (Touch the score on the top middle of the screen) and click exit game. Then when I press the home button, and click back into the game with the "resume game" button, it takes back to where I was. So technically there isn't a save button, but there is a way to go back to the game you were playing.

-Update-
You can actually just hit the home button while you are in the middle of the game. Then just resume game when you enter into the app. Enjoy!
