Description

Apollo "Eagle" is a simulation of the final twelve minutes of the landing of "Eagle", the Lunar Module from Apollo 11. This was the "Powered Descent".

The key is to lose the forward velocity before pitching over and landing vertically. For most of the descent the throttle is at 100%.

By adjusting the throttle and pitch you can land safely. As fuel is used up, the mass of the spacecraft correctly reduces. Ideally, you need to have your altitude and forward rates less than 10 fps (feet per second). Altitude and rates are in feet as these units were used on the original landing.

If you fail to land successfully you can use the time slider to rewind to an earlier point in the flight. You can also pause the simulation. The landing info button shows basic information about how to conduct the landing. This will also pause the simulation.

The home button will return you to the title screen.

You can attempt a full landing or select a practice version. The resume option will return to the previous full landing attempt. The
accelerometer changes your view point.

I like it!

Fun to fly, reacts well. Would be better if you could set the view angle with a fingertip vis pointing the device, but other than that I think it is worth a buck

Extremely Realistic Lunar Landing App

While most of the lunar landing apps are little more than games based on the 1970's Atari version, This app accurately recreates the flight dynamics and physics of the Apollo Lunar Module on its powered descent from lunar orbit to the surface of the moon. By altering thrust and pitch the pilot is able to control the descent while being fed the critical data of pitch, forward velocity, vertical rate of descent and remaining fuel level. The Lunar Module is faithfully and beautifully rendered and the player is treated to different views simply by rotating the screen all with a background soundtrack of the actual lunar landing from Apollo 11 on July 20th,1969. This mighty little app is the rare combination of lessons in orbital mechanics, Newtons Laws of physics, and history, all wrapped in an entertaining package for just $0.99 cents

Apollo Eagle advice/praise!

This is one of my favorite space related apps that I have and you've done a marvelous job of letting the player experience what it was like to land in the moon. I love the real time sounds of the Apollo 11 powered descent and that it gives you all the critical data in order to safely land. It's simple yet intriguingly difficult. Well done! The one thing that I would potentially recommend for a future update, is it maybe have an interior cockpit view to land from. Best of luck!
