Very useful utility

I like to fall asleep having videos streaming to my TV from my mac. My TV has a sleep timer which turns the TV off, so I thought my mac should have something similar. I didn't want to have my mac running all night after I'm asleep, so I looked into a sleep timer. I love this one because it's only a dollar and gives you options whether to sleep, shutdown, restart. It can also remember settings to be the default, so mine is configured how I like it. Now, all I have to do is run the app before bed, it takes a matter of seconds. Awesome app! Love it! Worth the $1.

Hot Mac Apps Review

Do you have a set routine of when you want your computer to restart or shutdown? Well as you know there is a stock application for this built in to your OS. This can be activated in System Preferences under Energy Saver. Now this would work just fine usually, but when you have a file downloading or Safari open it will not shutdown because you have applications open. For this you need a force quite then shutdown which is exactly what Sleepy can do. With Sleepy you can arrange a shut down, restart or sleep at a specific time or choose in a set time form your current time. It also gives you the option to do force shutdowns and restarts which can come in handy if you left some applications open or a file hasn't finished downloading etc.

Sleepy is a relatively simple application with a small window and few controls, preferences. It has a few unique features other than the force shutdown and restart. You can set specific applications that it will not force quit and will not shutdown if open, also you can change the dock display to show a countdown until the restart or shutdown will occur. The main feature that stands out and makes this app worthwhile is the force quit shutdown and restart. However unlike the stock application it doesn't have a set time to startup or wake up your computer. If it was able to integrate this feature it would be a much more worthwhile and practical application, completely eliminating the need and use of the stock application.

It's great at what it promises to do...

But I tried this HOPING that it could force close Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion will not disconnect "users" automatically. It waits for you to hit the "shutdown" button. So my automatic shut downs are no longer working. This is hugely annoying. But not Sleepy's fault. Sleepy did shutdown every app that was open and would have shut down my Mac Mini if it were not for Mountian Lion. So… if you have an OS prior to Mountain Lion you will appreciate this app!
