Astronaut Spacewalk Review

Astronaut Spacewalk Review

While fascination with space has waned in the popular consciousness for a while, who can say they've never fantasized about being an astronaut? Being able to either jump around on the moon, or simply to spacewalk amongst the stars, with our big blue planet orbiting within your vision. Astronaut Spacewalk fulfills this fantasy by immersing you visually and aurally in the suit of an astronaut as you use your propulsion system to move along satellites and space stations. It's an im…

App Wrap Up (Midweek Edition, 18th June 2012)

It's been a week exactly since the last app wrap up, so let's have a look at what games out there look interesting. Remember, we don't know if these games are good or bad, we're just evaluating possible merit based on their trailers (and some might even warrant a full review from us in the future). Without further ado, let's take a look at the latest offerings. Extreme Flight (TechSoft Ventures) An air show flight arcade trainer? Fly through the hoops and collect balloons. Based on whether the control scheme is good or bad, this could be a bit of fun.. and hey, it's free![App Store Link] Pig me up (Mad Head Limited) What kind of fiend would steal a kid's pig? This game look…

Gamevil's Arel Wars 2 Slated for Release Sometime in the Next Month

Gamevil's Arel Wars 2 Slated for Release Sometime in the Next Month

Arel Wars 2 is the sequel to Gamevil's original entry into the head-to-head castle defense genre. From the trailer we can see that the game contains their usual high visual and audio presentation, along with lots of upgrading, different units, and a continuation of the kingdom of Drusilla. It looks like a lot of fun. Gamevil's games can be pretty grind heavy though so we'll have to see if their upgrading mechanics have decent progression, or failing that, that the battle system is fun enough to hold our interest. No release date has been confirmed, but it should be out before the end of August.…

Free 2 Die Review

Review Everplay By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
Free 2 Die Review

At what point does homage become a rip off? Fans of the multiplayer zombie shooter Left 4 Dead might see more than a few resemblances in Everplay Interactive's Left2Die, from the name itself, to the ideas behind the special zombies. Aside from that though it plays a lot more like Alive 4 Ever, yet in copying the design of that game, has failed to latch on to what makes a fun twin-stick shooter zombie survival experience (hmm, that might just be another genre name in the making here).…

Jar on a Bar Review

Jar on a Bar Review

It's sometimes really interesting what constitutes a genre on the app store. For instance, the physics puzzle genre has bloomed over the last couple years, and as such now has its own sub-genres, one of which Jar on a Bar is a part of. Let's call it the physics removal sub-genre. Like Finger Physics, the player has to remove objects from the screen in order to allow an item (in this case a fish stuck in its bowl) to safely descend to the welcoming ground below (so that the fish can hop…

Follow the Rabbit Hits the App Store This Week

The latest by Gamega and Armor Games, this puzzle game of chase and block pushing doesn't look like much on the surface from the visuals, but keep watching the trailer. As you get an idea of how the game is played, and what's in store throughout the levels, your interest might pick up a little bit. Mine sure did. This could be quite the fun little puzzle game. We'll know for sure when it hits the App Store on Thursday the 19th.…

Puzzle Adventure game Unmechanical Looks Promising

Slated to release sometime around the mid to end of August, Unmechanical looks like a game to keep your eyes on. Have a look at the trailer. Kind of having a Machinarium vibe, there's lots of puzzles to solve and an atmospheric world to explore. If the controls work out well, this looks like it could be a winner.…

Outwitters Review

Review One Man Left By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
Outwitters Review

It's been a while since we've seen a release from One Man Left Studios. Years ago they released the fantastic Tilt to Live, and aside from updating that game with new modes and features, nothing else has surfaced... until now that is. Outwitters is a turn based strategy game that pits you against the rest of the internet in either 1v1 or 2v2 match-ups. You can play league games which pit you against players of the same skill level as you rank up; you can play against random opponents;…

Great Little War Game Gets a Sequel

What is the sequel to Great Litle War Game called you might ask? Why Great Big War Game of course! This turn based strategy game is out on July 18th for the price of $2.99. It features asyncronous combat for online multiplayer across platforms with over seventy maps, and the main campaign has fifty missions. With a great looking cartoon art style, and a good sense of humor to things, this looks like a must get for strategy fans. It's got an impressive amount of content if nothing else!…

Synesthetic: Audiosurf + Boost

Synesthetic: Audiosurf + Boost

Audiosurf is one of my favourite games on PC. Over the years countless hours have been put into riding music along with trippy visuals. Since then more than a couple games have tried to become the Audiosurf of the mobile gaming platform, but at least in my opinion, they have fallen short. Cue Synesthetic, a game that will be released July 19th, that from the trailer combines Audiosurf with Boost. Have a look yourself. I guess we'll know how it stacks up when the game releases further on in the month.…

App Wrap Up (Midweek Edition, 11th June 2012)

And here we go with another app wrap up. Remember, we can't vouch for the quality of these games. They just look interesting based on the trailer, and we think perhaps some of our readers might find them enjoyable (tell us if you do!). Let's get started! Billy the Painter (Lipasto Games) Sporting a cartoon style reminiscent of the Fleischer brothers, Billy the Painter has you tapping to cover up paint splotches... but if your paint hits the outer rim, the level is done. Simple and unique enough to warrant a look.[App Store Link] Nerdtris (APP-ARISE GmbH) It's Tetris in binary, finding chains of 1s and 0s. I dunno what else to say about it. -.-[App Store Link] Puzzle Birds…

Tiny Wings 2.0 Has Arrived!

Tiny Wings 2 has finally dropped on to the App Store. Aside from the very clever teaser trailer, we can say that the 2.0 update is free for those who own the original and that it's gonna be annoyingly addictive! Better still, if you happen to own an iPad, grab the new HD version to take advantage of all that screen space. iCloud is enabled for keeping progress between iPhone and iPad devices. Our review of the updated and iPad versions will be up later in the day, so keep an eye out for it! [Tiny Wings HD iTunes]…

Darkside™ Review

Review Clockwork Pixels By Dave Flodine, 11 years, 9 months ago
Darkside™ Review

First and foremost when discussing Darkside by Clockwork Pixels, one has to commend the game for being a free title that's more akin to a demo than an opportunity to nickel and dime its players through in-app purchases. Downloading this twin-stick shooter will give you the arcade mode with limitless play, and for the price of ninety nine cents, you unlock the full game which includes two additional modes, and the use of screen clearing smart bombs. Whether you wish to spend the money o…

Bridge The Gap 2 Review

If Bridge the Gap 2 has taught me anything, it's that pirates are capable of only the most rudimentary physical abilities. If you want them to not fall down chasms to their untimely demise, they need the invisible hand of a pirate engineer to place wooden poles, barrels and boxes down so they can not only get to their precious flag, but collect any gold coins along the way. Pirates do love their booty after all. Each level gives you a set number of resources to use, and a limited sele…

Levee en Masse out on iPad, iPhone Version Coming Soon

Levee en Masse is a historical strategy game about the French revolution. From the trailer it looks like the battles take their cues from Risk, with the map having a unique look to it. From the sound of the press release, it sounds like its a single player only game, but history and strategy buffs should get some milage out of such a title.…
