Flying Fears? Get help from a Virgin

Sir Richard Branson's company Virgin Atlantic is always ready to adopt new innovations, be it either civilian space travel or an iPhone App. Branson has also been well known for his philanthropy and personal approach to passengers, giving even low budget airline travel a bit of class. This has extended into the companys' Flying without Fear Courses and newly released iPhone App of the same name, designed to help those who have a fear of flying cope with their travels. This is a clever business concept, pulling in loyal customers while promoting the companys 'human' side.Though despite the steep cost involved with attending the actual course (which is still quite affordable compared to years…

Zombies! Zombies Everywhere!

In the mood for a little violence? Or hungry for some brains? Either way the App Store has everything to please those with an urge to fend against those relentless flesh eating machines known as Zombies! There was a time when we thought Zombies had reached the height of their popularity, to be replaced by (sigh) 'Sparkling' Vampires. But no, those living dead fought off the pending wave of Emo Night Walkers with a barrage of great shoot 'em ups! There's no sonnets or deep and meaningful romantic moments for those hungry for flesh. The game plots are always the same, and the characters have been pulled from every conceivable stereotype, but who cares, they are killing Zombies! Try out a litt…

FEATURE ARTICLE: Just Another Phase of Marketing? Movie-Game Adaptations

In the age of television, online entertainment, computer games and torrent downloads, movie studios have to compete even harder for a piece of the market share. With production costs and actors wages increasing, and a high demand for epic digital effects, a simple movie release along with a Happy Meal promotion is no enough to get, using the industry term 'butts on seats'. Studios have to exploit virtually every marketing avenue available, and the iPhone is now a part of the equation.  The initial cinematic release of a film usually equates to less than half of a blockbusters success, the opening weekend determines the rate of return on investment, and in previous decades, huge profits…

'Tapping' into Christmas

With the holidays growing closer, we are beginning to see some games in the App Store putting on a Christmas visard, just in time for that period of excessive spending which is December. We're also seeing some original Christmas releases, and offcourse, a waste basket full of puzzle games and quizzes. Giving Christmas a comical, and quite bloody angle, is Trigger Happy Christmas by Games Faction, the guys who created Ink Invaders. We'd always been weary of those little Elf's, and now, you can help Santa slaughter all of them! The game is full of comical animation, and a setting which looks like a cross between a gingerbread village and South Park. Another addition to this Slaughterhouse Ch…
