Top 3 iPhone Games for April 2012

Top 3 iPhone Games for April 2012

April has been an odd month - not particularly bursting with amazing titles, but not short of highlights either. As such this month's list is far more personal than ever and I'll try to explain my choices as best I can. Was there something you went gaga for this April? Let us know down in the comments.

For now, this is AppSpy.com's Top 3 iPhone Games for April, 2012. Max Payne Mobile (Rockstar Games) $2.99 Univ.

I accept that I seem to be in the minority in loving the iOS port of Rockstar Games' seminal third-person shooter, but its simplicity is what works in its favor, especially on a touch device. Clearing out rooms of enemies with a casual spray of a weap... Read More

THE KING OF FIGHTERS-i 201... Review

Review SNK PLAYMORE By Andrew Nesvadba, 1 week, 1 day ago
THE KING OF FIGHTERS-i 2012. Review

When The King of Fighters-i first found its way on to the App Store and managed to rival its the Street Fighter titles, it was all I could do to contain my joy. Once again, developers had managed to defy conventions and turn a game that requires insanely precise controls in to something not only playable, but also competitive. The King of Fighters-i 2012 keeps the ball rolling and in much the same way that Volt did for Street Fighter IV. More to the point, those expecting a change-up ...

Friday News Wrap-Up 27 April 2012

Around my side of the planet things are wet, cold and otherwise dreary - perfect weather for snuggling up on the couch and watching my favorite shows and playing my favorite games. Sadly I won't be able to get to my weekend of adding to my couch-dent until I cover the news of the week, so without further more to say...

This is the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 27th of April, 2012. Might & Magic: Duel of Champions

The world of Might & Magic has seen itself go through more than a few genres in an attempt to give fans a chance to experience its long-running story in new ways. Soon Ubisoft will be tackling the CCG genre with 'Duel of Champions', bringing th... Read More

Conceptis Fill-a-Pix Review

[Editor's Note: Apologies for the video being unavailable for so long - YouTube is currently updating their back end again and it seems some features are missing at this time. We've found a work-around for now and hope this won't be an issue again soon!] Earlier we reviewed Prismapix, a puzzle game where the player uses minesweeper-like clues to know what tiles are safe to uncover a picture on and which are not. That game was based on a simpler kind of logic puzzle, and that's exactly...

Shaun the Sheep - Fleece Lightning Review

[This title was the Mini-review for the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 20th of April, 2012] Shaun is back once again, but this time he doesn't have is fellow wooly-friends in-tow. In fact he's going solo, sprinting at top speed to out-run the pigs to win the 'Fleece Lightning' competition. Each of the game's 80 levels will only take a few seconds to complete, but getting to the end isn't easy thanks to a host of hazards, not to mention the pigs themselves. Thankfully the controls are mor...

Friday News Wrap-Up 20 April 2012

Right now I'm existing in a state that's roughly equivalent to being a small child awaiting Christmas day - my weekend is all planned and I'm off to nerd it up and chat with personal heroes such Richard Horvitz and Will Wheaton. But before I head off we have the small matter of this week's Wrap-Up.

So lets get crackin' on the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 20th of April, 2012. The Bluecoats - North & South - May 10th

Nostalgia can be almost criminal in its ability to gloss over the past and make you believe you loved something despite its flaws, but one thing is for sure, North & South was a game that got me hooked on strategy titles. Aside from the occa... Read More

PrismaPix Review

PrismaPix Review

There's a reason why we at AppSpy recently reviewed Kris Pixton's latest release in the Pathpix series - it was to act as a refresher or reminder of the developer's particular puzzling style. Ultimately it acts as a perfect introduction to an entirely new (relatively speaking) puzzling experience in the form of PrismaPix, and while it may feature the same core goals of PathPix, the gameplay itself is fresh and utterly engrossing. Mixing elements of games such as Minesweeper, Fill-a-Pi...

Fibble Review

Review Crytek By Andrew Nesvadba, 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Fibble Review

Crytek, better known for developing 3D game engines that push computers to their limits, have finally dipped their toes in to the casual gaming scene with Fibble. I say casual because it has all the hallmarks of a relaxing puzzle title, from it's excessively 'cute' presentation; simple drag and tap control scheme; and relatively limited amount of content... however it's anything but a simple game. You play as Fibble - a rubbery, bouncy alien attempting to find his crew and repair his ...

Azkend 2 - The World Beneath Review

Traveling on a boat from Liverpool, England to New York, you find yourself swept up in a maelstrom and awaken beneath the waves, embarking on an adventure full of wondrous locations untouched and unseen by any explorer before. To back up this intriguing tale with gameplay, Azkend 2 takes the popular match three formula, adds its own unique spin, and throws in some easy hidden object diversion for good measure. The match three game is based around fixing or acquiring lost or broken obj...

Gridrunner Review

Gridrunner Review

Once again I brace myself for entering in to the hyper-stylized world that Llamasoft inhabits in order to get to grips with their latest release, Gridrunner. Don't be fooled though, this isn't the first time developer Jeff Minter has tinkered with his C64 and VIC-20 title (PC gamers may remember the insane remake from a few years ago), but in what seems like a surprising display of conservative design, the iOS release shares a lot of similarities with the original title. This is great...

Storm Strikers Review

Review Sunny Tam By Andrew Nesvadba, 2 months ago
Storm Strikers Review

One should probably not play Storm Strikers by Sunny Tam early in the morning - then again I'm not at my greatest before I've had an unhealthy amount of coffee, so take this warning at face value. When you load this game up the face-meltingly challenging shooter experience should be no surprise at all (this is the developer behind Danmaku Unlimited after all), but persistence and skill is duly rewarded, firmly placing the game in the realms of the 'hardcore' gaming enthusiest. Much li...

Munch Time Review

Review Gamistry By Andrew Nesvadba, 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Munch Time Review

I hate to sound like a broken record, but if I'm going to talk about Munch Time from Gamistry, I'm also going to have to talk about it being a 'cute, 3-star, physics-based puzzler'. I say this as though it's a mark against Gamistry, the developer behind this title, but it's not - what it is, is an indicator of just how hard the game needs to work to pull ahead of a fiercely contended pack of games seeking to jostle for first place. Munch Time revolves around the super-cute chameleon u...

Pizza Vs. Skeletons Review

Pizza Vs. Skeletons Review

While I may not have emphasized it over my time at AppSpy, games like Wario-Ware  always seems to suck me in thanks to is ever-changing series of micro-games. When I saw that Riverman Media, the developers behind the gorgeously presented DeathFall and Ikaros, were releasing something in a similar vein, I just had to check it out. ... And almost immediately Pizza Vs. Skeletons managed to floor me. You're given three basic controls: tilt to move left and right, tap to jump ...

Diggin' Dogs Review

Diggin' Dogs Review

In a world ruled by cute dogs, three adventurers will dig their way through hazardous caverns in order to retrieve the lost pirate-dog treasure, along with a few bones - because, you know, they might get hungry too! Diggin' Dogs by Soap Creative and Chillingo is a hard game to pin down despite bearing a striking similarity to similar treasure hunting titles of the past. You see, the dogs you control (as well as the environment itself) is subject to the physical influences of your iDev...

Ragdoll Blaster 3 Review

Review Backflip Studios By Andrew Nesvadba, 3 months, 1 week ago
Ragdoll Blaster 3 Review

If you can't beat'em, join'em - it seems to be a rallying cry for many titles of late and so it's no surprise to see Ragdoll Blaster 3, the latest release in Backflip Studios' flagship games, joining the 'cute and cuddly' revolution. We won't blame them though because the upside is the addition of four new 'ragdolls', each with their own unique skills to add to the game's already fun physics gameplay. One thing the shift from a stylized design to a friendlier 'cute' motif has changed ...
