Oh hi there, and welcome to The Thursday Find. In this potentially regular feature we’re going to highlight a new game that’s just hit the App Store that might have passed you by.

Why are we doing this? Well it’s part of our ongoing effort to make sure we’re separating the wheat from the chaff - basically we want to ensure that you know about the best games, so you can play them and be happy.

So let’s just get on with it shall we? I mean I’ve set everything up nicely, it would seem annoying if I filled a paragraph with nothing just because I like having three paragraphs at the start of an AppSpy feature.

Neon Chrome

This week’s Thursday find is none other than Neon Chrome. It’s a retro-tastic top down shooter that fans of Alien Breed and Gauntlet are going to be instantly familiar with.

And not a bad familiarity, not the sort of deja-vu familiarity that makes your skin crawl. The sort of familiarity that’s like a lovely big hug from an old friend who you maybe haven’t seen for a while.

You control a series of clones and you’re trying to take down the titular company. And by take down I mean kill. Like, seriously, you’re just going through a massive tower slaughtering people.

It’s an awful lot of fun. And on top of the nostalgic love pangs some might get, there’s also a decent level of challenge here. This isn’t a walk in the park, and it’s only too happy to chew you up and spit you out.

But there’s a very real chance that when it does that you’re going to chew right back. The mixture of roguelike character death and arcade shooting works really well, and you’ll want to leap back in and show the game who’s boss.

It will inevitably turn out that the game is the boss. But hey, you can’t be blamed for trying, right?

There’s MFi controller support, persistent character development, and all sorts of other really interesting features that set this one out from the pack. Good explosions as well.

If you like your action refined like a fine wine and your futures dystopian then this one is well worth picking up. And just so you know, it’s half price at the moment thanks to a launch sale, so maybe pick it up sharpish, yeah?
