It's Wednesday, so that means it's time for a round up of the best games that are on sale on iPad and iPhone this week. It's getting close to Christmas, and we know you like to save your pennies so you can get the people you love something nice.

Or so you can get drunk enough to forget about the whole thing and then sober up in January when it's over. Either way, there are some real gems on sale this week, and a good chunk of them won't cost you anything.

So sit back, relax, put your feet up, poor yourself an eggnog, and let's get this show on the road. Or at the very least onto the grass verge near the road.

Implosion: Never Lose Hope

One of the finest action games on mobile. This one's a gorgeous hack and slasher that feels so good to play. It's all cool and futuristic and there are hordes of enemies to hack into little pieces or blast to smithereens.

It's usually a pretty expensive game, but right now it won't cost you anything at all. So if you've never had a chance to give it a whirl because of the slightly steep price then you'd be silly not to pick it up now.

Goat Simulator

Is Goat Simulator worth any money? Er, probably not. But when it's free it's the perfect game to stick on your iOS device and have a giggle at.

Control a goat with a ridiculous tongue, run around, do ridiculous things, have a bit of a laugh. Definitely worth having this on your person to make those Christmas days drag a little less.

Oceanhorn

One of the finest adventure games on the App Store. It's a beautiful homage to the Zelda games and it swaggers around like it owns the place. Because it basically does.

There's loads to do, loads to see, and a lovely story to get engrossed in. This is a great way to while away a good chunk of time, and if you've not played it before then you really, really should.

Knights of the Old Republic

A brilliant example of the Western RPG done right, Bioware's Star Wars epic is a breathtaking achievement. And it's even more impressive to think that it fits in your pocket.

Travel through a galaxy far, far away getting engrossed in one of the best Star Wars stories ever told. Learn to do awesome force powers, meet some intriguing characters, and save or destroy the universe as you see fit.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

A lovely HD reimagining of one of the best platformers of a bygone age. Lead Mickey Mouse through some tricky levels and generally have a blast.

It's smart, it looks great, and the iOS controls work surprisingly well. And for less than a dollar you'd be a bit silly not to grab this as soon as you can.
