The 5 best iPad and iPhone games this week - 23rd December

By , on December 23, 2016

It’s the last week of the year. The App Store is going to sleep for a few days to recharge its batteries, so you’re going to have to make do with the games that came out in the past to get you through the festive period.

But if the other hundreds of week’s worth of games weren’t good enough for you, then maybe one of the five best games that came out over the last seven days might tickle your fancy.

I mean probably not, but it’s worth a shot, right? We’ll be back with even more excellent regular content in 2017, but make sure you keep checking back on AppSpy over the holidays for some excellent end of year words and stuff.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier

The third series of the Walking Dead kicks off with a bang. Clementine is older, there’s another new main character, but don’t worry because there’s still lots of zombies to look out for.

And of course there are loads of difficult choices to make, and a brand new grim and grimy story to really get your teeth into. A great festive treat.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic

A touch-based version of the classic rollercoaster sim. It’s been a while coming, but it’s more than welcome on the App Store after some pretty icky free to play versions sort of tainted the series.

But this is premium through and through. And that’s going to make Rollercoaster Tycoon fans very, very happy.

Angry Birds Blast

Sure it might be another match-stuff puzzler, but it’s a well put together match-three puzzler, replete with all the polish we’ve come to expect from a Rovio production.

Match colours, burst some stuff, kill some pigs, smash some structures, blow up some bombs. It’s a time waste, but it’s a pretty interesting time waste all the same.

Snowball!

It’s pinball, but in the snow. And presented with beautiful pixel graphics. And a charming wintry table full of hidden treats and gems.

There are gems to collect, high scores to chase, and plenty of fun to be had. You might not play it much after Christmas, but you’ll enjoy it when you’re playing all the same.

Silly Sausage: Doggy Dessert

A wonderful sequel to a wonderful original. You’re a stretchy dog making your way through a series of challenges. Dodge spikes, lasers, and all manner of other obstacles. And eat your way through cake.

There are extra special levels here as well, and everything is beautifully designed. Plus there’s Nitrome’s lovely pixel polish on everything. Just go and play it already.
