The Godfather game is out, here are some other films that could be mobile games

There’s a Godfather game out right now on the App Store. A tie-in to a film that came out more than forty years ago. Let’s be honest here, it’s not something any of us have been clamouring for in that time.

But it did set my thinking about which other classic films I’d “like” to see getting the mobile game treatment. In my defence it’s Friday and it’s been a very long week.

So here’s a list of other legendary movies that I think would make excellent mobile games. And by excellent I almost certainly mean absolutely terrible.

The Deer Hunter

A harrowing tale of survival and terror in the deep south. An allegorical story of how violence can change a man.

But the mobile game is basically russian roulette except with deers. You need to shake your phone to take a shot. Click and you move on to the next round. Even I’m offended by this idea and I wrote it down.

The Shawshank Redemption

A story of hope and redemption in an awful place. One of the classic feel good movies, brilliantly acted and lovingly shot.

The mobile game would basically be The Simpsons Tapped Out but with fewer jokes. Walk around the prison yard shuffling out rock, barter with other prisoners for items. Sounds horrid.

Citizen Kane

One man’s obsession leads him to success but eventual ruin. Rosebud. Other stuff. I think it’s quite long but everyone seems to like it.

The mobile game would literally be the Citizen Kane of gaming. Literally. I reckon it might be a hidden object puzzler. Lots of money and snowglobes to find. Maybe the odd sledge too.

2001: A Space Odyssey

A psychedelic exploration of the stars that looks at what it means to be human in the vast and empty cosmos. And has some monkeys in it. Monkeys are cool.

In my head this one would become a free to play shooter. Where you’re getting attacked by monkeys and obelisks and supercomputers and you need to send them all back where they came from.

Angry Birds: The Movie

Even I can’t figure out how they’d turn this one into a game...
