The Thursday Find - Puff

Thursday has stumbled into the building like a bedraggled shopper trying to avoid a buffeting from the wind and the rain. It's dripping all over the place, making all sorts of mess.

But that doesn't mean that we have to treat it with cruelty. Instead, let's show Thursday how much we love it by telling it all about one of the most interesting games that's come out on the App Store over the last 24 hours.

This one's a simple creature, but there's a lot of fun to be had with its manic shooting. It's called Puff, and if you click the emboldened name of it just below the end of this paragraph, you'll be whisked away to the App Store where you can download it.

Puff – Free

Puff is a three touch arcade game. It's a mix of Flappy Bird and a twitch shooter, and it's actually pretty damn good. Or at least it is before the malaise of repetition starts to creep in.

You control a cheeky blob, and it's up to you to stay alive for as long as possible. You've got a bounce button that sends you upwards on the single-screen levels.

And you've got buttons that shoot left and right. When you shoot in one direction, you'll move in the opposite direction.

Using this control scheme you need to blow up bubbles, destroy acid-spewing plants, and avoid gouts of polluted goo flying out of pipes. All the while trying not to fall in the ever-encroaching pool of water beneath you.

Stay alive on one level for long enough and the roof will fall in. Make it through the hole in the roof and you'll move on to the next challenge.

It's fast, it's well put together, and it never gets fiddly. It does lose its shine after a few hours, but while you're blasting through its retro-infused enemies, you won't really mind too much.
