Well, there's a Power Rangers reboot hitting the cinema soon. Because of course there is. I mean, everyone went to see the Transformers films, and quite frankly they were wobbly-camera dreck of the highest order.

But hey, who am I to judge? All I know about is mobile games. But there's a Power Rangers mobile game tie-in that's just landed on the App Store. So let's have a right good write about that shall we?

You can click the emboldened name of the game below to download it from the App Store. And you know what? There's a part of me that thinks maybe you should.

So what's all this then?

It's a fighting game built around everyone's favourite suited-up American teen ninjas, the Power Rangers. There's a story here, but I wasn't really paying all that much attention to it. I think it involves dimensional rifts though, this sort of thing usually does.

Essentially though the narrative just acts as a way to cobble together a whole bunch of Power Rangers from different eras of the show. There have been 22 seasons, after all.

That's a lot of power ranging

I know! Anyway, rather than button mashing here, you're scrapping it out against your foes using cards. These cards all have an action cost, and you've got an energy bar at the bottom of the screen that fills up as you play.

It's a bit like Clash Royale in that respect. You're trying to balance a strong offence with not just standing around for a bit while you wait for your moves to charge up.

The cards you get are dealt out at random as well. Blocks don't cost anything to cast, but sometimes you're not going to have one.

So it's one on one?

Er, sort of. You actually have a team of three different Power Rangers. You can call in your shiny coloured mates by casting an expensive assist spell when one pops up.

Then they leg it in from the side of the screen, whomp the face of whoever you're fighting, and then wander back out again. You can't swap between characters though. Once your leader's health bar is down to zero, you've lost.

Single or multiplayer?

Interestingly the game is mostly focused on real-time PvP. And that gives it an extra edge when it comes to excitement. We all know it just feels better beating up a real person than it does beating up an AI. (Please don't actually beat up any real people.)

Well, it sounds okay

It is okay. And if you're a fan of powers and or ranging then you're going to love collecting all of the different Power Rangers on offer here. But even if you're not, there's a solid face-smacker here that does things a little differently. Check it out. Or don't. I don't really mind.
