The Thursday Find - Dodge Blast

By , on March 30, 2017

This week's Thursday Find is a game that, at first glance at least, might look a little simple. I mean, scratch away the surface and you'll find that the game is, in fact, pretty darn simple. It just so happens it's a lot of fun as well.

It's called Dodge Blast, and it's out on the App Store right now, and it won't cost you anything to download it and give it a go. But how does it play?

Well you're going to have to read the rest of the article to find out, aren't you? As ever, click on the emboldened name of the game below to download it from the App Store.

Dodge Blast - Free

Dodge Blast is a game that takes the inherent shape of the old school arcade shooter, strips away a good chunk of it, adds a little bit more, and then runs away giggling.

You've got two buttons. One slides your ship from side to side along the bottom of the screen. The other fires your laser. Dodge and blast, as it were.

Waves of aliens roll in from the top of the screen, and it's up to you to shoot them to pieces. Although it's a bit trickier than that.

You can't just stay in a corner shooting. Your ship only has three bullets, and you need to move to reload them. Special weapon power-ups give you more blast for your tap, but they'll disappear if an alien hits your home base.

Get touched by one of your intergalactic foes and it's game over. There are boss fights to contend with, and an array of different creatures to shoot the deeper you get into the game.

Dodge Blast has a really great rhythm to it, mixing twitchiness and arcade sensibilities to create something that's bite-sized, but really rather compulsive.
