Modern Combat Versus has just soft launched in Australia and New Zealand. If you've not heard of it it's Gameloft's latest version of its shooty bang bang series, this time with a focus on multiplayer. Shoot men, shoot some more men, win points and make your shooty stuff better. You know the drill, soldier.

So now seemed like a pretty good time to round up the three best multiplayer shooters that are available world wide on the App Store right now. Basically we're taking a moment to check out the competition.

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the game below to be whisked away to a safe and special place where you can download it. And if you think we've missed anything out - hard to believe I know - then chuck your own suggestions in the comments below the content.

Guns of Boom

It might have a terrible name, but right now this is the shooter to beat on the App Store. It's super slick, super fast, and an incredible amount of fun to play. Team-based blasting with some neat ideas and a decent free to play system.

Sure it's closer to the likes of Team Fortress 2 than the CoD-aping Modern Combat, but don't let that put you off. This is one of the finest multiplayer experiences you can have on that little computer in your pocket.

This one has more of a straight up soldier vibe. It's third person for the most part, and you can play in teams or in free for all death matches. Again it's free to play, and again its free to play works remarkably well.

It follows a similar rhythm to Guns of Boom, with bite-sized blasts of carnage, regular rewards, and challenges to complete. Even a couple of years since it came out it's still one of the finest games on the App Store.

World of Tanks Blitz

If you've been with AppSpy for a while, you know we have a soft spot for World of Tanks Blitz. It's all thanks to that loveable bundle of cuddles Peter Willington. I wonder what happened to him? Nothing good I imagine.

Anyway, here you're rolling around sizeable battlefields in massive tanks, shooting other tanks and, if you're anything like me, sometimes getting stuck on trees and just having to wait until the other team spots you and puts you out of your tanky misery.
