Ah Wednesday. The central pillar of the working week. It's like the pole holding the rest of the miserable sheet up. If only we could find a way to knock it down. Together comrades, charge at the pillar that keeps us oppressed. No? Okay, maybe next week then.

Wednesday is when we like to look at the best games on sale on the App Store anyway. So it'd be a shame if we dismantled capitalism before I got a chance to tell you what you can save some pennies on at the moment.

As usual you can click on the emboldened name of the games below to go and grab them from the App Store. And if there's anything you think should be on the list but isn't, why don't you let everyone know about it in the comments at the bottom of this excellent content.

Football Manager Mobile 2017 - £2.99 / $2.99

Yes, there's probably a new one on the way in the not too distant future, but right now FM Mobile 2017 is the cheapest it's been since it first hit the App Store last year. It's not as deep as FM Touch, but it still manages to give you a pretty impressive, if slightly squidged down, football managing experience.

Metal Slug 2 - 99p / 99c

There's a huge SNK sale going on at the moment. It's not just the Metal Slug games going for cheap, there's a whole bunch of classic fighters too. Anyway, Metal Slug 2 is an excellent side-scrolling shooter full of gorgeous animation and mayhem. It's a bit sticky on touchscreen, but if you want some slugging on the go, this is a good place to start.

Retro City Rampage DX - £1.99 / $1.99

A gloriously old school game that's littered with popular culture references. It's all nods, winks, and cheeky grins. The touchscreen controls aren't perfect, but then when are they? For a couple of quid this is still an excellent way to while away some time. And that's sometimes all we're looking for in our gaming entertainment.

OTTTD: Over The Top Tower Defense - £2.99 / $2.99

One of those games that's only too happy to do exactly what it says on the tin. It's tower defence, it's over the top, and if you're a fan of the genre you're going to absolutely love this. There are towers, heroes, and all sorts of other things going on here. It's fast, it's pretty fresh, and it looks pretty slick as well.

Sidewords - 99p / 99c

It might only have come out last week, but Sidewords has just had two thirds cut off its price. It's a clever mix of a logic puzzler and a word game. Think Sudoku getting in a fight with a crossword and you're nearly there. It's not quite like anything else you've played, and if you like to spell things out then you're really going to enjoy this one.
