PROS

  • Great character designs and backgrounds.
  • Solid voice acting. Puzzle aren't that obtuse.

CONS

  • Humor a bit too crude sometimes

VERDICT

If you've been playing through, and enjoying the exploits of Hector and Lambert, there's no reason not to pick up the final episode. New players probably want to start from episode 1.

Full Review

It becomes increasingly difficult to review episodic games like Hector and other releases from Telltale because all the episodes of a series are planned together, so there's usually not much difference in quality of presentation, writing or gameplay. Hector – Beyond Reasonable Doom is the third and final installment in this series based on the world's worst police officer.

Like episode one, the previous game left on a cliffhanger, with both Hector and Lambert finding out the identity of the terrorist and discovering his plans before being knocked out. Since last review's explanation of how the game begins was met with cries of “Spoilers!”, we'll only say that this game opens with Hector and Lambert in quite the predicament. Once that's done with, they discover that the terrorist's plan is to destroy Clappers Wreake during 'Clapfest', the local fair, and it's up to you to aid them, putting a stop to his madness once and for all.

Like all the previous episodes the game's presentation is top notch. The art and animation really sells the world the characters inhabit, and the exceptional voice-work brings these characters to life. If you haven't figured it out from the previous episodes, the game employs very crude humor, with many references to bodily functions, sex, and stereotypes. These aren't completely a crutch though as most of the writing is clever, and especially in this episode, it was nice to see Lambert start to backchat Hector a little more.

Whether or not you buy this will hinge on whether you have been playing and enjoying the series up to this point or not. If the game intrigues you, we recommend you go back and try episode one first. If you have been following the tale of Hector and Clappers Wreake though, there is no reason not to finish off the tale.
