Combo Queen is a charmingly-retro rhythm action RPG out now on iOS, out soon on Android
Combo Queen isn't just about comboing a variety of different enemies - even though it totally is about that - it's also about comboing loads of different genres as well. It's part auto-runner, part rhythm-action, and part action-RPG, and it's all wrapped up in beautiful, irresistible pixel art. Just look at that pixel art! You play as Queen, a duel axe-wielding warrior who's on an unstoppable murderous rampage. Combat is handled by well-timed taps for both attacking and blocking and you can upgrade your weapons which adds a nice RPG element to the game. Get mesmerised by the retro tunes in the trailer below and, if you like what you see, head on over to the App Store via the lin…
New Playworld Superheroes trailer reveals more gameplay
Got sixty seconds? Then you've got time to watch the new trailer for family-friendly hero-em-up Playworld Superheroes. The game aims to encourage children to think creatively by designing their own alter-ego hero, and attempting to save the world from evil aliens. You know, that old chestnut. Here's how this one looks in motion, you'll be able to download it from the App Store from Thursday 29th January.…
Get a closer look at Out There: Omega Edition in the brand new trailer
Out There: Omega Edition is a new and updated version of the original Out There and it's headed to iOS during the first quarter of 2015. The best way to describe Out There is as a futuristic space survival simulator. Flying from planet to planet you gather resources, say a quick hi to the local inhabitants, and maybe steal a ship or two. The trailer below reveals Out There: Omega Edition in all its 3D glory. Follow the links below to get the original game right now. [App Store link] [Google Play link]…
Trivia app Reveal 2 comes to iOS and Android on January 31st
Everyone loves a bit of trivia from time to time, and I reckon the reason why is that it's always nice to a) feel smart, and b) boast about being smart. Being one of those people who knows a heck of a lot about a very small number of subjects, on the rare occasions my knowledge of, say, 90s West Coast punk rock acts becomes useful, you're damn right I'm going to shove it in other people's faces. Reveal 2 is a game that'll give you exactly that opportunity. It's free to download and comes with a bunch of different packs on a variety of different subjects to get you started on the road to lording it over your mates. The game's out this coming Saturday the 31st of January on iOS and Android.…
Is David Cage's Fahrenheit coming to iOS and Android?
Those old enough to have been a gamer during the PS2 and Xbox era may well remember David Cage's bizarre action-adventure game, Fahrenheit. Released back in 2005 by Quantic Dream, a recent Amazon listing has suggested that Fahrenheit might be coming to mobile this year. I'll leave it up to AppSpy's video wizard James to give you a lot more information in the video below.…
Exiles is Crescent Moon Games' mobile answer to Red Faction and is out this week on iOS
Formerly an Android exclusive, Exiles is making the iOS plunge this week - Thursday 29th to be precise. As our headline suggests, Exiles is essentially a mobile Red Faction with heavy RPG elements. It's been developed by Crescent Moon Games, responsible for Ravensword: Shadowlands and Aralon Sword and Shadow, so you could say that that team is well versed in bringing RPGs to mobile. Check out the trailer below for a look at Exiles in all its, quite frankly gorgeous, sci-fi action glory.…
The 8 best Western RPGs for people who don't like Western RPGs
For as long as I can remember, my favourite genre has been the RPG. At best you get a rich novel-length plot full of interesting characters, an action or tactical combat system, and a gorgeous fantasy world to explore at your leisure. The best part - you get to create a custom version of yourself and live out a full fantasy life within a videogame. Isn't that what games are for? It turns out that a few people don't actually like RPGs. Though puzzled at first, I eventually came to the conclusion that these sorts have three main RPG turn-offs: the length, complicated statistical systems, and a too much to see and do mentality. With these key reasons in mind I browsed the App Store RPG offer…
Moneygrabber is a one-tap iOS game about consumerism at its finest
When you first see the trailer for Moneygrabber, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's merely a simulation of 21st century living. We're all trying to make as much money as possible and then show off said earnings with lots of shiny stuff. On a less cynical note, as a game Moneygrabber looks set to be another seriously addictive one-tap success. You tap to reach out and collect money as it descends down the screen, occasionally doing the same for power-ups. Once you've collected enough money, you can buy status symbols like watches, sunglasses, or even a car. They're all named after their real life counterparts but with the sillyness meter turned up to eleven - everyone wants a…
FastFishing favours speed over relaxation, is available for free on iOS from January 22nd
Fishing is relaxing, I hear. You cast your rod into picturesque waters, open a can of lager, and fall asleep until you feel a light tugging on the line. That's how fishing works, right? Though it may be rather therapeutic in real life, that doesn't sound particularly interesting for a game. That's probably what lead to Strange Flavour's decision to call its brand new iOS fishing game FastFishing. It plays almost exactly like regular fishing except it's much faster and each level is timed. There are 22 levels to cast your reel into and six different areas, ranging from stormy ocean waters to sunny idyllic islands. You can also unlock a variety of new equipment that can be used…
Mobile MOBA The Witcher Battle Arena gets release date, out sooner than you think
We've played the soft-launch version, but the real thing is nearly here: The Witcher Battle Arena is coming to iOS and Android this week. Based on the highly regarded RPG series - which was itself inspired by a series of novels - The Witcher Battle Arena pushes the popular franchise into a new multiplayer arena. To discover the exact release date and see the game in action, check out the video above.…
The Humble Mobile Bundle 10 has landed and offers six great Android games at one low price
The Humble Mobile Bundle offers one of those rare situations where owning an Android phone has a very clear benefit over an iPhone: game bundles. Well, that and the fact you get Android Lollipop. God, I love Lollipop. As for the games, the bundle currently offers a decent selection: Buddy & Me, LYNE, and Doodle Kingdom are available for however much you feel like paying. However, if you beat the average donations you unlock three further games: Sorcery! 2, King of Dragon Pass, and OTTTD - bargain! The average currently sits at $3.92 but will no doubt climb as more games get added. Oh, did we not mention that more games get added later? Well, they…
Gameloft has announced the next chapter in the hit action-RPG franchise Dungeon Hunter
It was inevitable. As sure as Modern Combat 6 is in development somewhere, a new Dungeon Hunter was surely around the corner - and it is. Dungeon Hunter 5 follows hot on the footsteps of 2013's Dungeon Hunter 4 but with some small improvements that have obviously been pinched from other franchises. Remember the largely disappointing The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot? That was Ubisoft's attempt at making a free-to-play action-RPG and it actually had a decent concept. You could build your own dungeon or stronghold and fill it with traps and minions, much like in Dungeon Keeper, and then raid fellow player's dungeon, stealing their treasure if yo…
Tiny Realms update brings a whole bunch of smack talk, faster progression for new players
The rather fantastic strategy management game Tiny Realms has been updated to version 1.10.1, bringing with it a very nasty new gameplay upgrade: Taunting. If you manage to get three stars in a battle with a human opponent you can leave a mocking note with them as a parting gift - along with their base lying in ruins, of course. Also new to this update are multiple Starter Packs which will help new players progress through to mid-level content much faster. Here's what's in store... The update is available now, but if you've not grabbed the game yourself yet you can do so via the link below. [App Store link]…
A new Motorsport Manager update is racing onto the App Store later this week
Last year's surprise racing management simulation hit, Motorsport Manager, is getting the update treatment later this week. What you'll be getting is a new racing series, the 'World Speed Series', which is aimed at those crazy few who didn't find the base game challenging enough. There are also new challenges with a variety of limitations that require you to change up your playstyle in order to complete them. Finally, the game will be localised for French, German, Spanish, and Italian languages. Meanwhile, here's AppSpy's very own Peter playing Motorsport Manager. If you like what you see, head on over to the App Store via the link below. [App Store link]…
