The World Of Warriors developer diary explains the upcoming action strategy game's inspirations

World of Warriors is coming out of Mind Candy - them what made Moshi Monsters - but specifically from its Brighton team: Candy Labs. It's a free-to-play action and combat focused strategy game, one Candy Labs is claiming will appeal to all ages, and all skill levels, including the more hardcore console gaming crowd. Candy Labs has just released a developer diary that reveals more about the game's origins, how the project got started, and some of the more subtle minutiae too.…

Bike Rivals receives a Halloween update, new levels will see you howling like a werewolf

I wouldn't say that many of the stages in Bike Rivals ever left me thinking "well that was easy", but clearly some people must have found some of its levels a bit of a breeze. Why? Because Miniclip has just popped over the trailer for the Bike Rivals Halloween update, and they've assured me that it contains some of the very hardest courses they've yet devised. The update, which includes a new bike available for purchase, as well as a bloody great spider to contend with, also sees the addition of Infernando - a new rider you can unlock by getting perfect runs on the spooky fresh stages. The update is available now, links to download the game on iOS or Android are below. [App Store link]…

DeNA Games has popped over the latest developer diary video for its new tower defence game - Star Wars: Galactic Defense. If you missed it, you can catch up on part 1 here, but this new video focuses on covering some of the gameplay elements. Tower types, special abilities, customisation, and hints at some of the 90 different units you'll face are all shown, plus there's a bit where the nice man tells us that "characters are one of the most important elements in the game". Fantastic! Star Wars: Galactic Defense will be available as a free-to-play title shortly, on both iOS and Android.…

Disc is 'a simple game for smart people', and it's out right now on iOS

You read that right smarty-pants who like straightforward video games: according to its creator, Disc is the game for you. This iPhone and iPad game from Tapush asks you to connect two discs of the same shade to create one much darker disc. Eventually you'll make grey discs, which score you points when you put them next to one another. Here's the trailer, clever clogs. Disc is out now and costs $0.99 / £0.69, with no IAPs. Below is the link to grab it from the Apple App Store. [App Store link]…

DomiNations is a highly detailed looking strategy game coming to iOS and Android next year

DomiNations is a highly detailed looking strategy game coming to iOS and Android next year

There's a new trailer doing the rounds for the first title to come out of Big Huge Games and Nexon's recent partnership - DomiNations. I'm in two minds about it. On the one hand there's a danger that it could turn out to be just another strategy management game in the mould of Clash of Clans or Tiny Realms or Plunder Pirates. In which case that's fine, but there's not an awful lot to get excited about. While on the other hand, the sheer scope and size of DomiNations' planned gameplay is really quite impressive, suggesting an unprecedented level of detail, and countless upgrade paths. The game plonks you in control of a nation in the Stone Age, and it's your job to take them into the…

Target Acquired takes a Buster Shot at Kickstarter, game is being worked on by Square Enix and Capcom talent

Target Acquired is a combination of an auto-runner like Canabalt, and a shooter like Mega Man, which sounds like a pretty good combination to me. Through the development process the developer TouchTen has had the creative input of Ryo Teruya (one-time CEO at Square Enix), but perhaps more important for that Mega Man feel is that it's also got a soundtrack composed by Manami Matsumae (a veteran Mega Man composer, as well as having worked on Contra and Derby Stallion). TouchTen is launching its Kickstarter campaign today to help get it funded. Here's the video. Feel like backing the project? Pop over to the Kickstarter page.…

The launch trailer for Space Forest Dilemma features Tetris and Arkanoid style gameplay plus psychedelic animals

The Android version of Space Forest Dilemma is already out - our pals at Android Rundown reviewed it here. However, the game's coming to iOS on November 6th, so the team at PapaQuark has prepared a brand new launch trailer. Space Forest Dilemma is a free-to-play spatial puzzler with a plain look and a simple premise, but there are some very sharp controls and devious puzzles in here too. Can't wait until November 6th for the iOS version? Grab the Android outing on the link below. [Google Play link]…

Hip to be square? Spectrum is out right now, and this is what it looks like

Your task in Spectrum is to swipe on the screen to move a cube, which means you'll hopefully avoid lines of cubes from smashing into you. The idea is basic, but the presentation is just smashing, with an epic and almost 80s sounding soundtrack, plus razor sharp visuals. Spectrum is out right now, here's the trailer. Fancy a go? Spectrum is free and available on the links below. [App Store link][Google Play link]  …

Super early footage of Lynn and the Spirits of Inao shows off the Studio Ghibli-esque presentation and Metroidvania gameplay

French outfit Bloomylight Studio has announced Lynn and the Spirits of Inao, a game which they're hoping will be a perfect combination of Princess Mononoke and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Now that is a very tall order. But from the alpha footage we've seen (which you can see below), it appears the team is on the right track. A gorgeous anime-influenced aesthetic, lots of fast action, puzzle and exploration elements, and that soundtrack... oh man... that soundtrack is giving me goosebumps already. The team is planning to release the game around October of 2015 on both iOS and Android (and PC, Mac, and Wii U). AppSpy's going to keep tabs on Lynn and the Spirits of Inao, we suggest…

Catch zombies and turn them into food for humans in Zombie Catchers, out this week

Two Men and a Dog's first game has been in development for 12 months, and we've been eager to play more ever since we discovered it at PG Connects. Now it's finally ready for public consumption: Zombie Catchers is hitting iOS this week. The game will be released on October 30th and stars a menacing alien chap running around trying to capture zombies, then turning those zombies into fast food for human beings to consume. I'm betting that Zombie Catchers is going to be a bit of a hit, so take a look at the gameplay trailer now to see what's in-store.…

This brutal GIF of a Space Wolf Scout shooting a Chaos Marine and shattering his skull is all sorts of awesome

As Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf approaches launch, Herocraft has popped us over a GIF, and I just had to share it with you. It's a Space Wolf Scout with a Sniper Rifle, taking aim and firing at one of the legion of Chaos. And it is absolutely devastating. PS. You grabbed your code for a free Booster already, right?…

Chain Breaker is an auto-runner / platformer / puzzler hybrid, and this is what it looks like

Chain Breaker is from indie developer Lemonauts. It's a game all about running through levels, and cutting chains and smashing platforms to create safe paths through said levels. While you're doing that you'll collect coins and even transform into a flaming flying ball of death too. Neat. Fancy giving the launch video a peek? Sure you do! The game's out now for iPhone and iPad, it's 99c / 69p, you can find it on the link below. [App Store link]…

'Tea and the Tub' video from Supercell shows Boom Beach's massive new Task Forces update, reveals Lt. Hammerman love of bubbles

Even evil dictators need some "me time" every once in a while, and Lt. Hammerman is no exception. The 'Tea and the Tub' trailer that Supercell's just popped out is evidence of this. But it's not all about the relaxation: this video also explains all about the huge new update that finally adds clan support to Boom Beach. I was a big fan of Boom Beach, but I lost interest after the updates seemed to dry up. However, with this new content, which is out now as a free update, I'm very tempted to return...…
