Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft coming to iPhone next year

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft coming to iPhone next year

Earlier this year, Blizzard announced that it would be bringing new card-battler Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft to iPad. Of course, while this was good news for fans of trading card games who happened to own Apple tablets, it did leave iPhone users staring icily at their blank, Hearthstone-less screens, a single tear rolling down their quivering cheek. Well weep no more, fictional yet melodramatic iPhone lovers, because it turns out Hearthstone is also coming to iPhone next year. According to Polygon, Blizzard's chief creative officer Rob Pardo made the announcement during a talk at BlizzCon. Though we're pleased to hear that the World of Warcraft developer intends to bring Hearthston…

Stealth Inc to step into the light on November 14th

It ain't easy being a clone. Wandering around all day, staring at your own face. For all you know, there could be versions of you in every city in every country in the world. All strolling about, all wearing your smile.  Unless, of course, you're the star of sneaky platform-puzzler Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark. That guy knows exactly where his genetic duplicates are: smeared over the walls of a labyrinthine testing facility. If our goggle-wearing doesn't want to join them, then he's going to have to skulk, sneak, and creep his mass produced socks off in the hope of avoiding detection and escaping the complex alive. Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark is the latest port of a PC tit…

Enter the Race Wars Trials with Fast & Furious 6 update

It seems that free-to-play movie tie-in Fast & Furious 6: The Game still has some juice left in its tank. In fact, it's just received a healthy top-off of content in the form of a brand new update, which adds new modes, vehicles, and locations to the CSR-style racer. If you've burned through the existing challenges, then you can now tackle the Race Wars Trials. Speed - and control - freaks may get a kick out of the Terminal Speed event, while the Drift Circuit caters to those who live for the sound of squealing tyres. Also, if you're a fan of freebies, then you might be interested to hear that anyone who downloads the update gets a chance to win Dom's 1970 Dodge Charger.  The u…

Get Final Fantasy V for £7.49 / $10.99

There's no denying the quality of Square Enix's iOS ports. It's done a cracking job bringing the early games in its beloved Final Fantasy series to touchscreens, polishing up the visuals while still capturing the essence of the original version. However, the Japanese developer is a tad harsh when it comes to App Store pricing, thinking nothing of charging upwards of 15 bucks for a 15 year-old game. If the steep price tag has held you back from purchasing Final Fantasy V, however, then today is your lucky day. For a limited period, you can pick up Final Fantasy V for £7.49 / $10.99.  Hey, we know is isn't exactly 99 cents, but it's better than a kick in the power crystals. [Ap…

Henophobia is what happens when you mix chickens and pinball

Henophobia is what happens when you mix chickens and pinball

Yes apparently we have pinball chickens to thank for our resources and brains not being harvested by extraterrestrials. Henophobia may not be the prettiest game to look at but mixing pinball mechanics with the gameplay of a lot of physics puzzlers, and you have an entertaining concept (especially because the pinball paddles are moveable with your thumbs). Have a look at the trailer and see for yourselves. The game is due out on November 17th. Try to conceal your eggscitement (cause... you know, there's a chicken).…

XO9 is for those that like to play Tic Tac Toe in their Tic Tac Toe

XO9 is for those that like to play Tic Tac Toe in their Tic Tac Toe

We've had a few submissions over the years for Tic Tac Toe apps here at Appspy, but never brought attention to them. The reasoning was that Tic Tac Toe is such a simple game, even the greatest presentation isn't going to polish up the app enough to get people that interested. I was ready to dismiss XO9 today until I watched the trailer. It's your standard game of Tic Tac Toe, but in order to make your mark on the board, you have to win a smaller game of Tic Tac Toe. Watch the trailer to see what I mean. Now the reason the game is so simple, is once you know the correct strategy to win a game, the worse you'll get is a stalemate. How will a game play out if…

Sorcery! Part 2 to cast its spell on the App Store tonight

Sorcery! Part 2 to cast its spell on the App Store tonight

There is a man standing before you. In his right hand, he holds an unusual book. This book has only a single glass page, upon which words and images dance across like stones skimming the surface of a lake. The man touches the glass book with his finger. Suddenly, an new image flashes into existence upon its sleek, reflective surface: Before you can ask what this terrifying image means, this man flicks his enchanted finger and the creature is gone. The picture has now been replaced with the following text. "The second chaper of Steve Jackson's interactive adventure book Sorcery! will go live on the App Store at midnight tonight. All those who seek closure should muster their courage, sha…

Tunnel-runner Octagon rolls onto the App Store tonight

Tunnel-runner Octagon rolls onto the App Store tonight

Regular readers might remember 3D auto-runner Boson X from its AppSpy review a few months back.  If you do, then the trailer (below) for Octagon, the tunnel-based auto-runner from developer Lukas Korba, might look oddly familiar. Just like Boson X, Octagon has you tapping either side of the screen to move your avatar around the interior of a tunnel in an effort to keep it on solid ground. Unlike the scientifically-themed Boson X, however, this geometric arcade title puts you in charge of a rolling octagon instead of a sprinting professor. Though there are a few of these tunner-runners around, they can be great fun when executed correctly. This one certainly looks bright, colourful…

Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse due out on December 4th, mobile versions soon after

Broken Sword: The Serpent's Curse due out on December 4th, mobile versions soon after

Man, the fifth Broken Sword game... it seemed not too long ago I was playing Broken Sword: The Sleeping Dragon, and impressed that this small but beloved adventure franchise had been able to make a third game. Now thanks to Kickstarter, the series was funded last year for a fifth outing, and the day of release is almost upon us. The PC will recieve the first episode of the game on December 4th with both Android and iOS to follow suit. It seems one of the hangups is that while it is easy to send an Android version of the game to all those who donated at the tier to receive one, Apple doesn't make things as easy, and Revolution have not found a way to distribute it yet. This is a m…

Asphalt 8 ditches price tag, now totally free-to-play

Asphalt 8 ditches price tag, now totally free-to-play

"Asphalt 8: Airborne is a patchwork quilt of arcade racing tropes stitched together with skill and affection." That's how we described Gameloft's hyper-real racer when it landed on the App Store two months ago. Now, the feature-rich racer is going free-to-play, ditching its price tag for good and inviting all and sundry to take it for a test drive. Though this might come as a bit of a surprise to players who dutifully coughed up their 69p / 99c back in August, you can see that Gameloft had laid the groundwork for a transition to freemium before the game was released. The game's comprehensive upgrade and customisation options already had a fairly freemium vibe, and an in-app payment sys…

Enter the Clan Wars with Call of Duty: Ghosts companion app

Another day, another iOS companion app for a high profile console release.  This time, it's Activision offering stat-tracking fans a free way to interact with the newly-released Call of Duty: Ghosts via their iPhone or iPad. Provided you're running iOS 6 or higher, the Call of Duty app lets you control multiplayer match settings like squad selection and weapon loadouts from your touchscreen device. If you're the territorial type, you can also set up your very own clan, and compete against rival groups to seize control of the Clan Wars map. Attacks can be co-ordinated using the built in chat system. You can even use the Clan Emblem Editor to ensure your image of a skull is the best…

LEGO The Lord of the Rings out on iOS 'soon'

It's only been a couple of weeks since we learned that the LEGO Star Wars games are coming to iOS in 2014. However, it looks like Frodo, Gandalf, and the rest of the Fellowship are going to beat Skywalker and friends to the punch. According to a press release which appeared on Touch Arcade, LEGO The Lord of the Rings has its scary, flaming eye fixed on the App Store, and is expected to appear 'soon'. Given the high quality of the iOS ports of LEGO Batman: DC Super Heroes and the LEGO Harry Potter series, we've got high hopes for the smartphone-friendly version of this plastic-themed trip into Middle Earth. As soon as we have a concrete release date, we'll sound the Horn of Gondor. Until…

See the first trailer for Battleheart's 'spiritual successor', Battleheart Legacy

We took a shine to Mika Mobile's adorable action-RPG Battleheart when it marched onto iOS a couple of years back. Its blend of real-time combat and polished 2D visuals coupled with an impressive skill system helped it win the heart of our reviewer, and the approval of a decent number of mobile RPG fans. It shouldn't surprise you to learn that the dev team responsible hasn't been sitting on its collective hands for the past 24 months. Allow us to introduce you to Battleheart Legacy, the "spiritual successor to Battleheart: The trailer above is our first glimpse of Battleheart Legacy in action. As you can see, the series has had a major graphical overhaul, and is now sporting new (but equa…

Tetris creator to release new game Dwice this Thursday

Tetris creator to release new game Dwice this Thursday

When the guy who created Tetris releases a new game, we can't help but take notice. And when tetromino godfather Alexey Pajitnov releases his latest iOS effort Dwice later this week, you'll might want to take notice too. Dwice is a shape-matching puzzler which marries the decending object mechanic seen in Tetris with the colour-matching mechanic seen in every other iOS game released in the past 3 years. The aim is to clear the screen by dragging triangles, circles, and squares through the geometric equivilants, thereby clearing the screen. To score big, you have to chaintogether as many objects as possible in a single swipe. It sounds pretty simple, but you soon learn that if you accident…

Ratchet & Clank headed to mobile

The latest installment in the Ratchet & Clank series Into the Nexus is set to launch on Playstation 3 this November 12th. Alongside that, however, Ratchet & Clank-themed endless-runner Before the Nexus will be coming to mobile. The game will link up with its PS3 counterpart, and Raritanium you earn in the mobile game will allow you to unlock more weapons in the console game. We're seeing a huge ramp-up in companion apps which tie directly into major console releases. Games like Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4 all have mobile apps which let directly influence the full game from your iOS handset. I suspect we're only going to see more of this as we move forward…
