If so, the soon to be released game Lanterns by Sydney-based developer Big Time is ready to release as soon as possible (they're just waiting for Apple's final confirmation). Have a look at the trailer and see what you think. There's definitely a zen-like vibe going on - equal parts of Bejewelled and Fruit Ninja definitely shine through and we'll be covering it once the game is available.…

God of Blades hitting the App Store today

If you long for a time when rock albums were adorned with blade wielding heroes and video games were much simpler fare, then God of Blades is going to be perfect for you. The game hits the App Store today, bringing with it plenty of hacking and slashing action, and a unique look that sets it apart from the rest of the side scrolling genre. There are new swords to collect and plenty of enemies to slay in an immersive single player campaign that's all about reclaiming your memories and saving your world from oblivion. God of Blades should be turning up in the App Store anytime now, and its blend of storytelling adventure and violent sword play make it well worth checking out.…

You owe me a new Acorn

Squeak squeaker squeak squeaken. Yeah sorry, when i see a game that features a squirrel called Squeaky, that quote instantly springs to mind. Squeaky at the Fair has to use the rotation of giant wheels to escape a giant wheel himself. It looks like the gameplay of Knights of the Round Cable, with a focus on side scrolling progression rather than score quotas. Have a look at the trailer. The game releases this Thursday…

The Last Express arriving on the App Store on the 27th

If you're a fan of point and click adventures, then Thursday is a day to mark in your diary, because it sees the release of The Last Express, a forgotten classic of the genre created by Prince of Persia's Jordan Mechner. Set on the Orient Express in 1914, the game is a mix of mystery, suspense, action, and romance, all presented in a unique and gorgeous cartoon style. Heavily praised on its original release, the game didn't quite grab the mainstream's attention, but many die hard point and clickers consider it the finest example of the genre ever created. This iOS version is a faithful port by the team at DotEmu, whose previous smartphone and tablet credits include R-Type and Another Worl…

Augmented Bug Zapper

Well bug shooter may be more appropriate. We don't usually review Augmented Reality Games here at Appspy. Mostly because they're very annoying to record, but also because aside from the initial gimmick of playng your game in the real world, the positive play expereince doesn't last very long. Nevertheless, sometimes we like to show off what's happening in that space. Here's the trailer for Bugs Mayhem. Seeing the game is free, why not give it a try and see if blasting bugs in real locations appeals to you.[App Store Link - iPhone][App Store Link - iPad]…

Modern Combat 4 announced at TGS

A video has leaked online that shows off the first trailer for the inevitable fourth enty in Gameloft's soldiering FPS series, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour. And it's fair to say that the prolific developer ise still finding inspiration from another series of games with a similar name. While the trailer doesn't show much actual gameplay, it does reveal that the game is going to be released in the Autumn. So that's anytime from now until November really. If the previous entires into the series are anything to go by, you can expect a single player campaign featuring lots of running and shooting, and a pretty solid multiplayer mode to boot. We gave the last game in the series, Modern…

iMpulse is the world's smallest wireless controller for mobile devices

Some KickStarter projects make you sit up and take notice, and the iMpulse certainly fits into that category. It's a key ring that doubles up as a wireless controller for your iOS or Android device. More than that, it lets you control your media, take photos without touching your phone or tablet, and if you install a special app, it'll even make a sound when you're trying to find your keys. You can use it either way round, so if you're a wierdo who uses controllers backwars you're well catered for, and you can even sync two to the same device, opening up a whole swarm of multiplayer possibilities. The device connects through bluetooth, so battery life shouldn't be too much of a problem,…

Friday News Wrap-Up 21 September 2012

With the iPhone 5 officially out, I honestly can’t hold all of these Apps I need to review. Dave and I are working overtime to sort through them all, but until then you can enjoy the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 21st of September, 2012. Coaster Crazy - Out Later This YearThose familiar with Frontier Developments will remember their work on LostWinds and LostWinds 2, and in particular, the solid iOS adaptions of both titles. Coaster Crazy is set to also hit the App Store and places you in charge of designing roller-coasters that need to cater to every patron’s whim, be it fast loops, speedy turns, or scary drops. There’s a sort of Rollercoaster Tycoon vibe, albeit…

Don't rain on my parade in October

While a game like Negative Nimbus may be outside our standard game fare, being as it's targeted for young children, i felt that the sense of humour and fun was prominent enough, and the concept interesting enough to warrant a preview. Have a watch of the trailer. It should be out sometime in October.…

N.O.V.A. 3 for iOS receives a sizeable update

Gameloft has released another free content update for its impressive futuristic FPS, N.O.V.A. 3, adding a new multiplayer mode, a new map to scrap on, and voice chat on selected devices too. The new multiplayer mode is called Team InstaGib, and, as its name suggests, is a team based, one-shot-kill battle to the death. Everyone has the same weapon, making it a real test of your twitchy shooting skills. The new map is called Warehouse. It's set in futuristic San Francisco, and its mix of long and short range combat opportunities make it an intriguing prospects. Throw in some Halo style jet packs, and you're left with an arena that has something for everyone. And last but not least, the ne…

Motorbike Vrooming in the App Store

Physics based racing / platformer games have become a hot commodity in the past few years with plenty of attempts by developers to recreate a Trails HD, Joe Danger, or Bike Baron. The HD version has a free lite version, but at $0.99, this looks like a sure bet if you love these type of games. Look for our review sometime in the coming week.[App Store Link]…

Capcom unleashes Street Fighter X Tekken onto the App Store

Capcom has finally released the iOS version of their console smash hit, Street Fighter X Tekken. It brings with it Retina support, and a robust online mode that fighter fans are going to love. Built from the ground up as a touch screen experience, the game features a roster of ten legendary characters from the Street Fighter and Tekken series, and lets you take part in furious two on two tag team battles. We've embedded a slightly mental Japanese launch trailer below so you can get a decent idea of what the game's all about, but we'd suggest you pick it up sharpish, as the game's on sale for just $2.99/£1.99 for a limited time only.…
