If you thought Gameloft's recent upgrade of their NFL series was a doozy then you'll have to set your face to 'stun' after getting your hands on Madden NFL 11 by EA Sports. From its luscious presentation to the amazing 'Total Defensive Control' (TDC) system, this is as good as it's going to get for NFL fans.

Plays can be customized on the fly with Hot Routes available for offensive maneuvers, drawing directly on the field and tweaking them to ensure you get exactly what you want. Players can be switched by tapping them directly, however the best feature has to be the TDC system which provides an almost unfair advantage to defenders, freezing time and allowing you to give orders to your players on a one-to-one basis ensuring you never miss those split-second opportunities.

The visual optimizations for the iPhone 4 are outstanding, with crisp high-resolution models, textures and dynamic animations that give this a console quality level of detail. It goes without saying that there's background commentary from Madden himself, but enough lines have been crammed in to make it worth keeping on for the authenticity. For those in to the small-details, team management options give you an opportunity to trade players and if you're after a multiplayer fix you can go head-to-head with your friends in a local Bluetooth match.

It's great to see EA Sports throwing their weight behind the iPhone and NFL fans will have their hands full as they dive in to Madden NFL 11 over and over.
