We're getting towards the end of the year, and that means that there are a whole bunch of games on sale right now for iPhone and iPad. And you know what? Some of them are really, really good. In fact, there might be too many to choose from.

But don't worry about that, because we've gone right ahead and picked the five that you should be splashing your cash on. After all, you've probably spent a good deal of money this month on wonderful presents for me. I mean for your family.

You can click on the names of the games below to grab them from the App Store. And if you've got your own suggestions, lob them without fear of reprisal into the comments section down there at the bottom of the article.

Steredenn - £1.99 / $1.99

A space-based shooter that mixes in roguelike elements to create something pretty darn special. It looks incredible, and you'll be slicing through waves of enemies with a mixed look of concentration and unbridled joy on your probably sweaty face.

The Room Three - £1.99 / $1.99

One of the best puzzle games on the App Store. In fact its just one of the best puzzle games period. It sees you using the touchscreen to manipulate things in a creepy Victorian setting. There's so much to do, so much to see, and you're going to love every single second of it.

I Am Bread – 99p / 99c

A game that, as you might be able to tell from the title, is all about being bread. Although you're playing as bread that wants to be toast. It's one of those games that's almost as fun to watch as it is to play. And for less than a buck you're going to get an awful lot of fun for not very much money at all.

Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch - Tyranid Invasion - 99p / 99c

A taut and tactical RPG set in the grimly dark grim dark future. You control a squad of Space Marines, and you need to basically kill everything that moves before it kills you. When it comes to GW's futuristic setting, this is probably the best mobile adaptation. For the emperor! And what not.

Forgotten Memories - £1.99 / $1.99

A spooky survival horror game that owes a good deal to Silent Hill 2. Not that that's a bad thing, really. After all, Silent Hill 2 was really good. Creepy mannequins, plenty of shocks and scares, and all for less than the price of a thing that costs 2 bucks. You can't really go wrong with that now, can you?
