Friday News Wrap-Up 25 May 2012

By , on May 25, 2012

It's Friday the 25th of May and you're here for one reason and one reason alone - to hear my sexy sultry voice as I bring you the News Wrap-Up for this week. So lets hop to it!

Fruit Ninja - Celebrating 2 Years In Style

Fruit Ninja may be collecting dust on the virtual shelves for some and for new iOS device owners it may still be one of their favorites - in either case, the latest update to Fruit Ninja is a huge one, featuring collectable currency that can go towards new power-ups from Gutsu and Truffles, two new characters in the game's expanding world. Better still if you don't own the game you could be lucky enough to score one for free - head to the anniversary website (link down below) to generate your iTunes code! Oh and while you're at it, update your copy of Jetpack Joyride - Flash The Dog has joined Barry on his destructive rampage and darn it... he's super cute too.

Because We May - Huge iOS and Android Sale!

As gamers we so often find ourselves spending crazy amounts of money on huge releases, while penny-pinching when it comes to smaller, independent releases. This is a shame in many ways, but at least the developers are keen to get you to try out their wares and the Indie collective Because We May is having a HUGE sale until the 1st of June. Titles like Anomaly: Warzone Earth, World of Goo, Zen Bound 2 and many others are on the list, so hit the link below and grab yourself a great deal!

Fieldrunners 2 - Out In June?

Lets keep the classic gaming theme running with Fieldrunners coming out of nowhere with a sequel. Almost four years ago this tower defense title was the bee's knees, the cat's meow and the dog's never-you-mind. The sequel will feature 20 gorgeously rendered stages with four environments as well as 20 upgradeable towers. Also, for those after more game modes a new Puzzle and Sudden Death variation for each map should be available too. More news closer to its release.

Shardlands - Stunning Puzzling

And now for something distinctly new... Finish developer Breach Entertainment has released this trailer demonstrating the visual design and locations in their upcoming puzzle-adventure title 'Shardlands'. Sadly more details are not yet available, but it's clear that no matter how the rest of the game proceeds, it won't be hard on the eyes.

Mini-review: Pastry Panic (Underground Pixel) $0.99 Univ.

Short, sweet and addictive - these are all words you could use to describe various kinds of pastries. These adjectives are similarly applicable to Underground Pixel's cute time-waster Pastry Panic. Featuring two gameplay modes, 'Mad Dash' and 'Toungue Tied', your main objective is to eat and thereby prevent various metal objects from passing across the screen on conveyor belts. In the first mode you can tap and swipe your way along these belts to nom on metal and pastries alike. Tongue Tied plants you in the middle of the screen and tapping will extend a tongue to slurp up objects as they pass by. Power-ups help and hinder in turn, but for every set of 10 pastries you collect you'll earn a coin which can go towards unlockable costumes. From its pixel-art visuals to its chip-tune soundtrack, the game is a simple, but strangely addictive affair that's perfect for gamers after something a bit more manic than normal.

Pick of the Week: Slingshot Racing (Crescent Moon Games Snowbolt Interactive) $0.99 Univ.

It's almost unfair to once-again award a just-reviewed title with Pick of the Week, but alas in lieu of the releases we've had of late my hand was forced. Slingshot Racing is most definitely deserving of the praise though as it embodies elegant design in gaming in one fell-swoop. From its stylized visuals, to its unique, but simple gameplay concept, Slingshot Racing's only weakness is an unshakeable feeling of repetition. Multiple modes and plenty of stages do try to offset things, making it the perfect racer to bust out during small breaks. Easily recommended to those who like to keep things simple.

And that's the Wrap-Up for this week - in the coming weeks you'll see us ramping up our news and content, including the return of our previews and maybe new features altogether. To keep track of it all subscribe to our channel here on YouTube or over on Twitter or Facebook. Have a great weekend!
