Mission Europa - Live Hands-On Preview

By , on March 3, 2011

Today we've got a special treat as Ryan Mitchell, the developer of Mission Europa has given us a sneak-peek at this upcoming title. I say 'special treat' because it's not often something this comprehensive makes its way on to the App Store and anyone craving something more substantial than the usual bite-sized games might want to take note of this title.

The game itself is set on Europa (the moon orbiting Jupiter, not the tiny island near Madagascar - just to be clear) and all hell has broken loose - probably literally, but now I'm getting ahead of myself. Contact with the colony was lost and you were part of a team sent to investigate what is happening; unfortunately everyone on your ship dies in the process and now you're being led by the nose by an AI intent on finding out more information about the demonic creatures on Europa.

Sound familiar? How about if I told you the game is a 3D FPS/RPG hybrid? That's right, fans of System Shock will find themselves sliding in to Mission Europa without a problem, though it should be pointed out the game looks about as dated as the original System Shock. This is, in part, due to the older OpenGL support that ensures this game will work on almost every iOS device currently available and with the game weighing in at around 170mb you won't feel the pinch on your space too much either.
