Metacritic top iPhone/iPad games of December 2012

By , on January 9, 2013

Ok, so readers of the site will know that every month along with our own top of the month lists, we write up an article based on the Quality Index's top games of the month. They're an aggregate site that is part of the same media network as us, and often it's interesting to compare the lists to see if there's any crossover. Over time however, it seems their primary audience for aggregating scores has grown into a much different demographic than Appspy's audience. While this means that posting their findings is even more interesting thanks to this descrepancy, the list doesn't really speak well to our audience anymore.

What's the solution then? Why to introduce a list from another aggregate site of course. The aggregate site. In what should be a monthly feature, we're looking at the top games of the previous month according to the stats over at metacritic. Here's the top ten list for December.

1. Battle of the Bulge
2. Final Fantasy IV
3. Anomaly Korea
4. Into the Dead
5. Minigore 2: Zombies
6. Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour
7. Raiden Legacy
8. Man in a Maze
9. Mutant Mudds
10. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition

This probably paints a better picture of the Appspy audience, although it is quite different in rank from our own December list. For instance, Pudding Monsters isn't even mentioned (our other two picks being Modern Combat 4 and Vice City). So what do you think? Is this information from Metacritic something you'd like to see us post every month as a comparison? Let us know your thoughts on their listings versus ours in the comments, and we'll try this again after our top list for January rolls around.

Looks like Metacritic is either rigged or has no idea what the f* they are talking about. What a JOKE that list is! Do they even play iOS games???

Here's the REAL list of 2012:

Best iOS Games of 2012:

(1) Outwitters (2) Heros of Order & Chaos (3) FIFA '13 (4) Modern Combat 4 (5) The Walking Dead (6) Autumn Dynasty (7) Machinarium (8) Batman: Arkham City (9) Chaos Rings II (10) Lostwinds 2 (11) Kingdom Rush (12) Bastion (13) Battle Monkeys (14) Blast-A-Way (15) Magic 2013 (16) Baldur's Gate (17) Angry Birds: Star Wars (18) Swordigo (19) Horn (20) Rune Raiders

Well you should know that Metacritic is an aggregate site that combines all the reviews of sites like ours (you may notice Appspy is listed on many of those game pages). If you don't like their assessment of 2012 (and this is not that, but their top games of December), you're certainly going to have a problem when we post ours as well.

There is no REAL best of list for 2012. Your list like ours is based on personal preference. You may disagree with every list out there, but that's the great thing about opinion (as long as you're not a dick about it), and regardless of what lists say what, there was a great year of gaming that we all got to partake in.
