There might be quite a buzz around the iPad version of XCOM, but Fireaxis is easing itself into the iOS game gradually and first on their list is the tactical spook story Haunted Hollow, which is available right now on the App Store.

It's a game about marshalling your minions into effective fighting groups, storming towns to capture the townsfolk, and generally being as frightening as you can. There are Fireaxis's strategy finger prints all over the game – base building, different units, resource gathering – but it's all presented in a twee cartoon style.

You'll mainly be fighting against friends and enemies in the multiplayer mode, but there's a solid single player campaign here too. The game is free-to-play, but Fireaxis has been clear from the outset that it's not going to try to stiff people with its pricing policy, so that's nice to know.

Haunted Hollow has been in soft launch in Canada for a couple of weeks now, but it's finally available world wide. You can grab it by clicking here.
