Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic coming to iPad

BioWare's epic RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is coming to iPad this week.

Tongues started wagging about the possibility of an iOS version of KOTOR last week, when publishing house Aspyr accidentally referenced the game in a digital newsletter.

However, all speculation was put to rest earlier this morning when IGN published a review of the iPad port. Thankfully, the review is largely positive, though its author does highlight some issues relating to movement controls.

We can remember playing the KOTOR way back in 2003, and think the game would be ideally suited to tablet devices. The point-and-click interface of the PC version should translate perfectly onto touchscreens. That said, we do concede that the game's movement commands could get lost in translation.

Unfortunately, we don't have a concrete release date or price for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic at the moment. However, we're expecting it to appear on the App Store before the end of the week - possibly even today.

Let's hope the force is with us sooner rather than later.

I'm so upset that I don't have the $9.99 to buy this! I'd sell back my games to the App Store to get the funding for this game! This is a legendary masterpiece!!!!

Seriously?! Oh my god, you have to play this game ASAP. It's a legend of a game... Right up there with Battlefront.

As much as I like free games, KOTOR simply deserves to be paid for. I just got a card a couple days ago, and I happily payed the $9.99 tag. The game, for its sheer quantity of content, is worth at least $15 or $20. $10 is a steal. Plus, who knows, maybe we'll see KOTOR 2 on the App Store in a while, following this original. I'm also highly keeping my fingers crossed for a port of the original Star Wars:Battlefront.. If we can pull off games like Modern Combat 4, then why not port Battlefront? And if it came with new multiplayer servers... I know at least 50 people that would buy it the moment it was released on iOS. Or even Empire at War! The touch interface would work great with EaW, since it's all. Point-and-lick system to begin with. There's a lot of potential for the Star Wars franchise.. And if great titles like KOTOR continue to get ported and released, I'll continue to happily dish out the money for each of them, so long as the prices aren't ridiculous, or if there are a ton of IAPs... But, even with KOTOR, IAPs also have great potential. Mods made by players that could be ported over into the games could be available as $4.99 IAPs, for different skin packs, or level packs, or whatever else. Not really a "pay to win" thing, but more a "get a different experience- kinda" thing. (:

Hey DarkScience... stop spamming the airwaves.

I am not trying to spam anything! I received the email from Aspyr about winning the game for free, so i thought I would share it on here as Djrella659 said he had no funds available! A kind act I thought - and it was the developers offering the game for free not some kind of spam site!

I bought this game for full price on the 4th and have no problems with paying that at all that at all, I have Baulders gate on the iPad too which was the same price - you get what you pay for. I would always rater buy a game than get it for free and then bled dry through out the game.

I'm no spammer - just love IOS games like the rest of you!!!

I did previously have insufficient funds... But, I worked out a deal with a friend shortly thereafter. Cx I've been playing KOTOR since then, and have alreadyy done four entire playthroughs... I'm still not bored of the game. :D

dude, that is dedication!! I barely have time to play mine, thats the beauty of the iPad though - you can squeeze it in when ever you can! Its running great on the iPad mini too - so much lighter!

Hey DarkScience. I stand corrected. Apologies!

^^Exactly. xD. I've done a light side and dark side character, both on the Soldier and Scout classes. I'm going to attempt to complete the game with just a gun-carrying character on the next playthrough... I can already tell it's not going to be easy at all (Yay for ridiculously hard challenges and multiple deaths!)

I'm running it on my iPad 2, and it's nearly flawless. I've had one crash so far and very minor framerate drops in large combat situations, like with fighting Brejik or The One's Rakata clan. Otherwise, it's very fluid.

SWEET !!!!!
This was one of my favourite games, I think it will work well on the iPad, IOS is seriously lacking in StarWars games IMO !!

It is. The Force Unleashed and HOTH Defense get old quick... Angry Birds:Star Wars is entertaining, but only until a level frustrates the crap out of you. xD.

We need a Star Wars FPS game, Imperial Academy aside (that multiplayer is broken to hell and back, and the controls aren't all that great either). Again, I opt for Battlefront. iPads can definitely handle the hardware requirements- especially is it's able to handle a game like KOTOR.

Actually, I'm also kind of hoping to see a port of the recent The Old Republic MMO on iPads.. It's unlikely, but still. I've wanted to try it, but I can't.
