The lights are green and the race is on - Rovio's new kart racer Angry Birds Go! is now available from App Stores worldwide.

Instead of lobbing birds at pigs as we've all been programmed to do, anyone who download Angry Birds Go! will find themselves hurtling around a race track in a hastily battered-together go-kart.

Essentially a freemium take on the Mario Kart formula with added feathers, the game lets you upgrade your ride, race as both birds and pigs, and use special powers to give you the edge on the tarmac.

Also, if you happen to have any of those Telepods from the Angry Birds Star Wars games, you can scan them into the game. Ever wanted to see Obi-wan race a pig in a soapbox? Me neither.

We went hands-on with Angry Birds Go! when it soft-launched in New Zealand a couple of weeks ago. You can hear our initial thoughts in the video above. The review will follow shortly.

In the meantime, you can download Angry Birds Go! free from the App Store right now.
