Umoove Experience – or Umoove Experience: The 3D Face & Eye Tracking Flying Game to give it its full name – isn’t much of a game. What it is, however, is proof of what Umoove Ltd's face-tracking software can do, and an exciting jumping off point for more entertainment focused developers.
It's hard to get excited about a short game that sees you flying around village trying to collect 14 potions. However, its Umoove Experience's peculiar control scheme which turned our heads - literally.
After launching the game, Umoove asks you to place your face within view of your iPhone or iPad's front-facing camera. After a few seconds of calibration, the app is able to track the movement of your head, and then use those inputs to steer a virtual magic carpet.
The aim of the game is to try and collect all of the purple potions before your magical flying mojo runs out, and you go crashing into the sand. In truth, though, it feel more like a tech demo designed to show off the unique control scheme than a full game.
That said, Umoove 3D Experience is available for free, so there's no reason not to give it a go if you're curious. There's even a button on the front page to allow developers to get access to the SDK for use in their own games projects.
AppSpy editor James tried out Umoove Experience earlier today, the results of which can be seen in the video below.
It's probably worth a look, if only to imagine what the software could be used for in the future. Don't play it on the bus though - you'll look mental.
