Remember that teaser trailer we posted last Friday? The one featuring the Red Bird leaping out of a suit of armour?

Well, it turns out that the video was Rovio's way of telling us that the next Angry Birds game is going to have more in common with Morrowind than Crush the Castle.

The game in question is called Angry Birds Epic, a free-to-play fantasy RPG. There will be wizards. There will be warriors. There will be magic. And there will probably be a tsunami of associated merchandise.

Combat takes the form of turn-based battles, just like the kind your daddy played when he was a nipper. Naturally, you'll be fighting an enemy force of sword-wielding piggies, battering them with weapons cooked up using the game's crafting system.

You'll be levelling-up your characters and cobbling together an arsenal on Piggy Island, a location which plays host to tropical beaches and frost-covered mountains.

Angry Birds Epic is set to be soft-launched in Canada and Australia later this week. We'll bring some hands-on video as soon as it goes live.
