First Look: Forma8

First Look: Forma8

This is truly a first look. More information on this mobile adventure game should drop this week at E3 (and we have contacted the developer for additional info), but for now all we have are all the screenshots available over at their site. What strikes me is the evocative alien landscapes, that are quite reminiscent of Another World. If this game is drawing their main inspiration from that cinematic platforming classic, we should also expect a clean user interface, situational controls, and a load of atmosphere. We'll present you with more on this title as details are revealed to us. [Forma.8 Website - Forma.8 Facebook]…

KOTOMON Review

Now you may be asking yourself, “What is a Kotomon”? No, it's not a Pokemon that's wearing a jacket, although that would be a good guess. All you need to know is that whatever it is, it contains cute monsters and plays like Katamari Damacy mixed up with some sort of pinball shooter. Each level has a number of monsters that need to be herded towards the gated goal. To help them along, you can pick them up, and tap the screen to fling them out onto the world like a lifeless…

Score! Classic Goals Review

Score! Classic Goals Review

Even those of you who aren't fans of the closest thing to a world sport we have in football (or soccer as it is also known), should be able to admit the most exciting part of the game is the goals. Now of course this is partly due to them being such a rarity, but it's also due to the combination of skill, strategy, and just the right dash of luck for everything to come together and wow the crowds. Score! Classic Goals is a football game that focuses on recreating the most famous goals…

Alive4ever mini: Zombie Party Review

Alive4ever mini: Zombie Party Review

The first few levels of Alive4Ever Mini take place on a beach. We try not to be topical in our reviews here at AppSpy as topical never ages well, and our videos will always be with you long after current events are forgotten. Nevertheless, given the recent attack in Florida, reviewing this zombie game at this point in time is rather fortuitous. Luckily in this more stylized, cartoony edition of the Alive4Ever franchise, we are not dealing with creepy cannibals, just a good smattering o…

Madfinger Games announce 'Dead Trigger' - a new first person zombie shooter

Madfinger games, developer of the third person shooter Shadowgun, which gained a favorable review from us here at Appspy, is proud to announce their new first person zombie shooter, 'Dead Trigger'. Here's the official E3 trailer: Promising a high end graphics and physics engine, evolving enemy AI, a host of weapons and traps, and country-based leaderboards, this is looking like a quality handheld shooter experience. No release date has been scheduled as of yet, but we will keep you updated as information comes out.…

Pocket God Episode 45 - Dance Dance Execution

Pocket God Episode 45 - Dance Dance Execution

Who would have thought that all these years later, Pocket God would still be getting amusing and entertaining updates? For those of you that wanted more dancing with your pygmys, the latest update includes a Dance Dance Revolution mini-game. Failure leads to death by disco ball so you'd best have your finger rhythm down pat (unless you wish to suck up some helium and hear sound clips from the infamous David after Dentist youtube video). The latest episode of the Pocket God youtube series will show off not only the new game, but the new in-app purchases of sweet dance moves and theme song by Parry Gripp.…

Heroes Call Review

Review Defiant Development By Dave Flodine, 2 years, 4 months ago
Heroes Call Review

There's nothing inherently wrong with the freemium model in theory. A player can pick up the game for no cost, and if the gameplay is rewarding enough, the hooks will sink in, and the player wont mind shelling out a few dollars to stream-line their experience... or at least the pay walls won't be obtrusive enough to annoy the player away. Sadly Hereos Call by Defiant has not struck upon this balance, offering an intriguing hack and slash Diablo-esque experience, saturated by a choice b…

Little Things® Forever Review

Some may remember KLICKTOCK for their recent and delightfully addictive time-waster 'ZONR', but those who own an iPad may remember them nest for something else entirely, 'Little Things'. Now after almost two years the sequel has finally arrived and adds polishes an already fun concept, albeit without adding to the game's basic formula. 'Blasphemy!' I hear you cry, but spare a thought for the iPhone gamer who has only been able to watch while iPad owners have enjoyed one of the best ey…

Mega Run - Redford's Adventure Review

Eventually there comes a time when a gamer automatically hesitates approaching a free-to-play game on the App Store, if only because they've been burned so many times in the past; be it for poor gameplay; outrageous IAP; or obtrusive advertising. But amongst the ever-increasing pile is the kind of rare game that flips the table and says, "If we make a good game, then they'll pay us." 'Mega Run - Redford's Adventure' by Get Set Games is a classic platformer in a way that few similar ti…

Friday News Wrap-Up 1 June 2012

For those who missed out on the messages on our Twitter and YouTube channel, there was a bit of a scare at the office yesterday as our main work PC developed a rather nasty bug. Thankfully everything was recovered and we're back in business today, so lets hop in to the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 1st of June, 2012. Squids Wild West - Launching this SummerSquids is a hard game to describe - part physics puzzler, part turn-based tactical shooter, and part RPG, it ticks all of the boxes to make it fun and seriously addictive. Extreme Skater Review

I guess there comes a point in any skateboarder's life when all the skate parks, half pipes, ramps, and grind rails just don't shine with the challenge of excitement that once was. One lucky skater was in the forest when a crystallized meteor crashed, not only giving him super powers, but converting the landscape into the extreme skate park of his dreams. Welcome to Extreme Skater. Each level is an obstacle course that ends with your skater reaching a chunk of crystal. The game starts…

Virtua Tennis Challenge Review

Virtua Tennis Challenge Review

Unlike so many who fondly remember Virtua Tennis from its heyday on the Dreamcast, I recall many a shiny dollar being pumped in to the machine at the local Arcade (or if I was lucky, a bunch of free plays during a lock-in night). Combining both the complexity of athletic Tennis and the simplicity of Arcade controls, it was a smash hit. Now on the iOS it has a chance to ensnare even more people, but as you'd expect it's not an entirely smooth ride. Despite the minimum fourth-gen iDevic…

Men in Black 3 Review

Let it not be said that all 'freemium' titles are bad - sure they have their huge flaws, but time enjoyed is time well spent. With that said, time wasted is time not enjoyed and definitely not well spent and this is where the genre comes in to contention: If you lack the motivation, then what are you playing for? Men in Black 3 slides uncomfortably in to this second problematic kind of thinking, albeit  presenting all the visual polish and flair Gameloft can muster, but it's not e…

Air Mail™ Review

Review Chillingo Ltd By Andrew Nesvadba, 2 years, 4 months ago
Air Mail™ Review

If there's one thing the iOS platform does well it's casual games - this doesn't mean they're necessarily easy, but they strip away complexities until a simple, elegant core remains and pair it with gorgeous and almost timeless visuals. Air Mail by N-Fusion Interactive and Chillingo is just such a game, allowing players to literally dive right in to the role of a pilot and stripping away the usual violent role for one that focuses on the joy and freedom of flying. Taking its cues from…
