Tiny Invaders Review

Tiny Invaders Review

Here's a scary thought. Imagine that the bacteria in your body was actually an invasion force of aliens looking to infect humanity one human at a time. Now imagine that you're actively helping them carry out their plans. That's the premise behind Tiny Invaders. It's like that animated sequence from the TV series of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, except a small dog is nowhere in sight. You infect each human from the ground up, which takes fifteen bite sized levels. In each level the…

Capcom Brawler Street Fighter IV: Volt Gets Two New Battlers and A Price Cut

Capcom have simultaneously dropped the price and upped the roster of its 5/5 App Store brawler Steet Fighter IV: Volt. The two newest burly bruisers to step into Capcom's deadly arena are film star Fei Long and martial artist Yun, taking the total number of playable characters up to an impressive 22. The Japanese studio has also made a bunch of improvements to the game's multiplayer modes, starting with a new Friend Request button. Tweaks to make sure there are no disruptions during wi-fi play and a new 'GoodFight' post-match praise option have also been added. More good news: you can now pick-up Street Fighter IV: Volt at a reduced price, albeit for a limited time. Punch your way throug…

AeroDrift Review

AeroDrift Review

Time-trial racers can range from the most mundane or vehicular simulators to the most insane of concepts such as flipping gravity. jAggy Race by SevenOnly mashes the two ends of the spectrum, ending up with something that feels more like an arcade racer injected with some seriously whacky psychotropics and despite the handful of levels available you're unlikely to master this game any time soon. This is, simply put, because the game is not above changing the rules mid-race, often seve…

Run Fox Run Review

Run Fox Run Review

It's that kind of week isn't it? One moment you're wondering where all the endless titles have disappeared to and the next your swimming up to your neck in them. Thankfully, Run Fox Run by Icewire tries to distinguish itself by focusing on the gameplay instead of high-scores and while it's still a simple title it makes for a fun experience while it lasts. The story itself is mostly implied as a fox is startled by and eventually attracted to a strange warp-portal that sends the red fo…

GoatUp Review

Review Llamasoft By Andrew Nesvadba, 3 years, 1 month ago
GoatUp Review

There exist in this world a whole host of games that you either 'get' or you 'don't. Often they border on artistic works, poking fun at or otherwise playing around with the conventions of gaming for its own agenda, but ultimately some sort of personal understanding or connection is needed to forgive the quirks these sorts of games create. In the grand scheme of Llamasoft's past work, GoatUp is perhaps the least challenging title to approach and that's saying a lot when you're playing…

Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! Review

Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! Review

You have to admire a developer that can create a character so fearsome that it only takes a distant whisper of its tireless scream to send a shudder down your spine. Which, according to Croteam themselves, is kinda weird considering the Beheaded Kamikaze of Serious Sam fame has no head to scream with. Thankfully in the iOS outing of Serious Sam: Kamikaze Attack! by Devolver Digital you get to control a Kamikaze instead of being its intended victim, just don't get too excited because yo…

Gameloft's Fast-Paced Street Racer Asphalt 6: Adrenaline Drops Down A Few Gears To Free

Gameloft's Fast-Paced Street Racer Asphalt 6: Adrenaline Drops Down A Few Gears To Free

Gameloft have slashed the price of its high-octane racer Asphalt 6: Adrenaline from $4.99 to completely free. The latest entry in the French publisher's street-racing franchise packs over 42 cars and bikes, which can be driven through the game's 11 racing leagues and 55 events. If you prefer destroying your friends to computer-controlled opponents, you can battle up to five of your buddies in both online and local multiplayer modes. And, when you've successfully beaten all available opposition, you can even take some time out, visit your garage, and explore your collection of high-powered beasts using your device's gyroscope. We gave the game a rather impressive 4/5 at review, so what th…

Halbrick's Jetpack Joyride Gets Updated With New Vehicles and Playable Character

Halbrick's Jetpack Joyride Gets Updated With New Vehicles and Playable Character

Australian developer Halfbrick's rather excellent Jetpack Joyride has been updated with some wacky new extras, as well as some almost mandatory bug fixes and tweaks. The foul-mouthed Barry Steakfries can now pilot two brand-new vehicles, including the ironically named Mr. Cuddles (a giant robot dragon), and the fruit jetpack. The latter is a nod to Halfbrick's smash hit slice-'em-up Fruit Ninja, and sprays the ground with fruit and juice as you speed past hazards. Barry is also joined by new character Honest Phil: an 'awesome Australian dude' based on Halfbrick's real-life CMO Phil Larsen. You can grab this 5/5 title from the App Store right now for just 99c.…

Flapcraft Review

Here we are again, back on the high bluffs of a mountain, crazy contraption in hand and a death-wish in the heart as we push our viking in to the blue-yonder in an effort to fly further than ever before. No, we're not reviewing Vikings Can Fly! again, but rather we're taking the screws to Flapcraft by Pixelmator Team. Flapcraft follows the basic formula found in many 'flying' games, with the protagonist earning points that go towards the occasional upgrade that affects the speed, flig…

NFL Rivals Review

Are you ready for some football? At least the most exciting part? That would be the tackles and touchdowns by the way. Yes it seems that Natural Motion has acquired the rights to the NFL license and have re-skinned their Backbreaker franchise to take advantage of not only the real teams, but the rivalries and match-ups of the upcoming season. If you're played any of the Backbreaker games, you should be familiar with the controls. Tilting the iPhone moves your player either left, right…

Game On: Catching Up With The Voxel Agents and Halfbrick

Game On: Catching Up With The Voxel Agents and Halfbrick

The Brisbane chapter of IGDA (International Game Developers Association) recently held an evening of questions and answers, bringing together three members from prominent development studios in Australia to talk to students about their experiences in the industry. Tom Killen and Henrik Pettersson from The Voxel Agents and Luke Muscat from Halfbrick were more than ready and willing to discuss topics ranging from the casual such as 'What games do you like to play now?' to more serious points regarding how to sell yourself as an Indie developer. The chat is only one such event in the year-long 'Game On' season organized by IGDA Brisbane. Co-reviewer Dave Flodine and I couldn't pass up an opp…

ArkanoArena for iPhone Review

So somewhere in the pockets of time and space there's a tournament held that is only for the strongest competitors to survive. It is overseen by a mysterious man named Arkano, and the competition itself... is Arkanoid. This is definitely one of the more ludicrous setups for a brick breaker but fans of the genre will see that this is indeed a solid entry. For those who've played any brick breaker on the iPhone, the controls should be familiar. The paddle (called the Stinger in this gam…
