Republique Review

République begins abruptly with you receiving a call from the panicked hero, Hope. Trapped in a totalitarian state, the young girl longs for freedom. Believing that you are her last chance of escape, Hope asks you to use your hacking skills to manipulate the city’s electronics to help free her. It is a strange take on the stealth genre, that has you leading Hope remotely through the oppressive world. The 1984-inspired fiction sees the walls covered with surveillance camer…

Order & Chaos Online gets new dungeon, fresh challenges, and black market boosts

Gameloft has just released an update for its free-to-play fantasy game Order & Chaos Online, bringing a new dungeon and challenges to the fantasy MMO. You can now travel through the land of Haradon to the Tear Coast, where you will face the Archbishop in Flame: Rebirth of Faith. The update will also provide an event book to help you track down daily and weekly quests to earn extra loot. New events and celebrations also come in the update, with the Dragon Boat Festival giving a taste of the Orient and access to a Dragon Boat mount. If all of these additional challenges are causing you difficulties, however, then a trip to the black market may be just thing to prepare your character f…

World of Tanks finally rolls onto the App Store in selected territories

Developer Wargaming.net has just soft-launched its free-to-play game World of Tank Blitz in selected territories. The developer’s new iOS title is a translation of its incredibly popular PC MMO World of Tanks, which currently boasts over 80 million subscribers. World of Tank Blitz optimises the PC experience for touchscreens, while still offering frantic seven on seven team battles. This mobile version of the game has many of the same features as the original. First off, you can choose between 90 different tank types. These will conform to four different tank classes, light, medium, heavy, and tank destroyers, making careful construction of your seven tank squad vital if yo…

Fruit Shake | Hands-On

Fruit Shake | Hands-On

Fruit Shake is a match-3 puzzle game with a few sweet twists on the Candy Crush Saga formula. Firstly, the confectionary has been ditched in favour of far healthier pineapples, berries, strawberries, and the like. Second, tiles aren't four-sided, they're hexagonal, which presents its own challenges. Third, there's a spin ability included, in which you can tap and hold a tile to turn the surrounding icons round it. Being a bit tired of the genre now, I cautiously decided to give Fruit Shake a go. You can see the results below.…

Superfrog HD Review

Superfrog HD Review

Some things - including old and beloved games - are often better left in the past. It isn't that these games were rubbish when they were originally made, rather gaming’s constantly evolving nature leaves many games feeling like relics. Team 17’s Superfrog HD is a perfect example of this. The problems span issues with both the original 1993 Amiga release of Superfrog, and this new HD remake. Take the controls. Not one of the three interface options provide a decent re…

AppSpy Plays: Bridge Constructor Medieval - live on Twitch (5pm UK | 9am Pacific | 12pm Eastern)

I've a confession to make: I am rubbish at building bridges, as demonstrated in my hands-on with Bridge Constructor Medieval. Thankfully, our man Alex here at AppSpy isn't half-bad, which is why we gave him the game to review. Since he really liked it - as we did when we gave it another quick go during Eye on the App Store - we just had to return to it for an AppSpy Plays. Live on Twitch we'll be attempting to forge mighty bridges, in an effort to stop as many horses from falling to their explosive dooms as possible. We'll need your help if we're to succeed, so come join us back here at 5pm UK, 9am Pacific, and 12pm Eastern, or over on our Twitch channel. Watch live video from AppSpy on…

Tony Hawk's Shred Session is coming to iOS this summer

Tony Hawk's Shred Session is coming to iOS this summer

Activision’s Tony Hawk series defined skating games for most of the 2000s. Now, over a decade later, the company is bringing a new instalment of the series to the iPhone and iPad in the form of Tony Hawk's Shred Session, a free-to-play lane-based autorunner. As a lane-based endless game, Tony Hawk's Shred Session looks pretty standard. Swiping left or right shifts your skater between lanes to collect coins and avoid obstacles. Where Shred Session changes things up is its trick system. Ramps and rails in your path allow you to perform all manner of grinds and jumps to earn more cash, and generally look cool. The game will feature two game modes: Shred Sessions and Survival. Shred Ses…

See the first screenshots for the third episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2

See the first screenshots for the third episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2

Telltale has released new info and screenshots of the forthcoming third episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2. Among other things, the images show that Clementine remains genetically predisposed to danger, and that William Carver - he with the moustache and gummed-up walkie-talkie - is to be voiced by series-newcomer Michael Madsen. The episode, titled In Harm's Way, uses the same moral choice system that won the series so many awards. Nothing Telltale has released suggests that this is going to be changed in any radical way, so expect the same split-second decision-making that will haunt you for days afterwards. In terms of storyline, perhaps most interesting is the appearance of cha…

Superfrog HD | Hands-On

If you're over a certain age, and you're European, then you may well fondly remember Superfrog, the cult classic Amiga platformer from 1993. The amphibious one has made a return in Superfrog HD, so I've donned my rose-tinted spectacles to give it a go for your viewing pleasure. You can see my hands-on with it below. Once you're done, make sure to hop on over to YouTube to subscribe to our channel.…

Bridge Constructor Médiéval Review

Bridge Constructor Médiéval Review

Mechanically, Bridge Constructor Médiéval adds very little to the existing Bridge Constructor formula. As before, building your bridge to cross the game’s various chasms is a simple process of selecting the desired materials from the menu and then tracing them into existence within a virtual grid. You have to work within a budget, making the construction process a little more tricky, especially if you want to achieve each stage’s more challengi…

The Boom Beach Diary - Week 4

It's all about shooting bad guys and destroying buildings in this week's episode of The Boom Beach Diary. I've spent the last 7 days aggressively fighting my enemies, and though I've been prevailing against the AI ones, the human ones are a little tougher than I first expected. Thanks so much for your advice and tips so far, you can see how I've been implementing your sagely advice to the defence of my Home Base in this video too (though I still have a long way to go until I'll be truly happy with my setup). Click play on the video below, go watch it directly on YouTube, and don't forget to leave your words of wisdom in the comments. And hey, if you love Boom Beach, go check out The Boom…

Here's that free-to-play Metal Slug tower defence game you all asked for

Here's that free-to-play Metal Slug tower defence game you all asked for

It seems SNK Playmore have stopped porting old Neo Geo games to iOS long enough to make a their very own Metal Slug game. Metal Slug Defense leverages the classic 2D sprites and backdrops from the shooter franchise to create its universe. You'll be able to unlock 60 units over the course of the game, and face-off against opponents in over 100 different locations. Tapping on character icons cause those troop to spawn from your base and advance towards the enemy stronghold in a manner that will be familiar to anyone who has played a tower defence game. Free-to-play elements allows you use in-app purchases to power-up your base and troops, so you can expect to be investing cash a…
