oh my giraffe Review

I think it's safe to say that we've all had our fill of endless-runners. However, we recommend you don't write of the entire genre before trying oh my giraffe, the extremely daft but surprisingly enjoyable savanna-based sprinter starring a giraffe with the most flexible neck in Africa. Harry Slater reviewed the game for Pocket Gamer. Check out the video to hear his verdict.…

4 Sonic The Hedgehog cakes you'll want to scoff down faster than the Blue Blur eats chili dogs

It's pretty hard not to love Sonic The Hedgehog, which is probably why Dr. Kintobor's creation has been gracing consoles and handhelds, mobiles and tablets for years now, and there's no sign of him going away any time soon. A video game icon, it's no surprise that gamers celebrating birthdays have made all sorts of Sonic cakes to commemorate the day. Here then are four of the very best. Biggest of ups to YouTubers Carlos Ramos, CakesByChoppA, Elisa Garcia, and Chris Perez, whose work you can see below. Our chums at Pocket Gamer are giving away a fantastic game from 2014 every day for a fortnight

'Tis the season, and to celebrate Pocket Gamer have pulled out all the stops with to ensure you're kept very busy for the lead up to Yuletide. From tomorrow, Pocket Gamer will guarantee one tip-top iOS game from 2014 goes free on the App Store every weekday until the 19th of December. We've seen the super-secret list, but we can't give any hints as to what's coming. As Samuel L. Jackson puts it: Let's give a round of applause to all the devs who have so generously scheduled their games to go free. Be sure to recommend the ones you grab to your friends around the dinner table this holiday season!…

Hands-on with Lucha Amigos, the turtle twanging home invasion flinger

Here's an odd one: is the act of home invasion more or less worrying if it's perpetrated by a trio of shell-skidding turtles? To answer that question properly you really need to play Lucha Amigos. It's a little bit Angry Birds, and a little bit Squid. It's also kinda bonkers, and relatively entertaining to boot. Peep the video above to find out more.…

Tiny Realms gets yet another sizeably satisfying update

You know those pretty awesome Bastion troops TinyMob added to Tiny Realms not so long ago? Well, you can now give them one of three specific orders to ensure they're doing their awesome thing exactly as you want them to. This is as part of a new update just released that also includes realm building reminders (messages appearing above buildings with helpful reminders) and updated faction unit traits.  For a much, MUCH more in-depth look at the most recent update, why not watch this amusing video created by the devs themselves: Talkin' Tiny Episode VII: The Tiny Awakens. Now, if I can just remember which topical film franchise they got that title from...…

5 unbelievable fan-made Supernauts creations of real world locations

We're back in the wonderfully creative world of Supernauts, digging through your cool constructions that have been captured for all to see on Everyplay. We've already covered the celluloid masterpieces recreated in Supernauts, so this time we're thinking even bigger: real world landmarks and locations, re-made in Grand Cru's online construct-a-thon. I've found the five very best ones I can, but if you've found better, drop a link in the comments. A Japanese castle Most of London The Great Wall of China The wild west Las Vegas…

Awesome Inkle adventure 80 Days is landing on Android devices this month

We loved Inkle's 80 Days when we first got handsy with it back in July. Now, it's finally making the trip over to Android - on December 16th, to be precise. This is definitely a case of better late than never. It's a digital interactive storybook based on the Jules Vernes novel Around the World in Eighty Days. You play as Jean Passepartout as he attempts to - you guessed it - travel around the world in 80 days, with his travelling companion Phineas Fogg. Whilst you wait, why not watch James playing the  iOS version of the game for the first time back in July. Trust us - if you an Android gamer, December 16th can't come soon enough.…

Hands on with Bean Dreams, the upwardly mobile bouncathon where beans wear hats

We quite liked Bean's Quest, a simple, silly, but admittedly entertaining platformer involving an endlessly jumping bean. As of this week, iOS users can now play the sequel, Bean Dreams, which brings with it even more levels of leaping, fruit collecting, and pink dragon liberation. Check out the video above to see the game in action.…

Hands-on with Shadowrun: Dragonfall, the definitive expansion to the Shadowrun universe

The Shadowrun universe does a good job of capitalising on the twin fondnesses of 20- to 30-something gamers: cyberpunk styings and isometric RPGs. The first instalment of this Kickstarter funded rejuvination of the series, Shadowrun Returns, was a reminder of why we used to pour hours into role-playing games without voice acting or fancy FMV sequences. With the iOS release of Shadowrun: Dragonfall, developer Harebrained Schemes has taken the PC expansion - which added 20 hours of gameplay and a ton of refinement to the original game - and packaged it up as a standalone app. Pocket Gamer's Harry Slater went hands-on with the game to see if it's worth your time. Check out the video above…

Hands-on with Tomb Raider II, a PSone game that doesn't belong on iOS

Hands-on with Tomb Raider II, a PSone game that doesn't belong on iOS

I'm not one of these 'angry gamer' types. Broadly speaking, I love games. Mobile games in particular. But playing Tomb Raider II makes me question my defense of touchscreen gaming. To my mind, these kind of console-to-mobile ports demonstrate exactly what you shouldn't do when trying to bring an old game to a new platform. Check out the video above to see why my panties are so tightly bunched.   …

9 Game of Thrones alternatives for Android

As per usual, fellow Androiders, we have been left out in the cold. Yes, another TellTale game has arrived on the App Store well before an expected Android release date. For shame. Not to worry, though, because AppSpy has got you covered with a specially-tailored list of  Game of Thrones alternatives for Android. They may not be adventure games but we can assure you that they'll evoke a similar spirit to Game of Throne's low-fantasy, high-death count world. 1. Game of Thrones Ascent An obvious place to start - this is an official Game of Thrones game set in the universe of the HBO TV show. It's a strategy RPG and a pretty good one, at that. 2. Ravensword: Shadowlands Fight with…

Dragon Quest III is out now on Google Play, has yet to hit the App Store

Yes, you read that correctly, Androiders. The highly-acclaimed Dragon Quest III has been released on Google Play first ,with an App Store version sure to follow - though it's not exactly certain when. Dragon Quest III is arguably the best game in the franchise and follows the child of Ortega on their sixteenth birthday who's mission (tasked by the King himself, no less) is to defeat the Archfiend Baramos, master of darkness. All of this can be yours for the princely price of £6.99 - just head on over to Google Play via the link below. Oh and, unfortunately, there's no trailer as of yet (though this will be updated with one as soon as there is) so here's our very own Pe…

Hands-on with Telltale's Game of Thrones, where winter is coming and everyone is from t' nuuurth

The first episode of Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series is now live on the App Store.  Just like the HBO show and the books which inspired it, the game is chock full of warring houses, brutal slaying, and northern accents. If you want to a quick and relatively spoiler-free glimpse of the game in action, check our new hands-on video above. …

Hands-on with Fist of Jesus, the unholy beat-'em-up where disciples do hadokens

I don't really know where to start with Fist of Jesus. While I personally don't consider a game where Jesus Christ teaches Judas how to clobber lepers to death with a holy fish to be blasphemous or troubling, I'm still a little surprised that Apple has allowed it onto the App Store. Regardless, it's here now. And of course, I just had to have a go. Check out the video above to see your saviour laying the smackdown. WARNING: Those of a sensitive religious disposition may tut disapprovingly.…

Hands-on with Boulder Jack, where Crash Bandicoot meets Raiders of the Lost Ark

You know that bit in the first Indiana Jones movie where Indy is running through the cave trying to avoid being crushed by a gigantic rolling boulder? Well, imagine if, instead of Harrison Ford in a fetching fedora, the part of Indy was played by '90s platforming icon Crash Bandicoot. And, instead of escaping the death boulder and falling at the feet of a tribe of angry natives, Indy just kept running and running forever, collecting coins and dodging explosive crates. Yeah. That's pretty much Boulder Jack. Check out the video for proof.…
