Dave says goodbye to Appspy

Well this is my last day as editor of Appspy.com I've had a fantastic time helping to launch this site. From developing the video reviews, to the review process itself, it's been a fulfilling experience. It's now time for me to move on and hand the reins over to the new editor, Andrew Nesvadba who will be ensuring that Appspy continues to grow, and becomes bigger and better. I'd like to thank everyone on the Appspy team for all their contributions to what I feel is quickly becoming one of the best iphone news and review sites on the web. I'd also like to thank all the fans from the website and our youtube channel for their interest and support. Finally a note to developers. I may not be r…

Fast and Furious: Adrenaline set for April Release

It has been confirmed that Fast and Furious: Adrenaline will be released on the AppStore sometime in April. Although some characters from the last game pop up, this new addition is promising to be completely different from the first instalment. This time it's all about Turf War with a 'persistent street-racing scene' where you can join a crew and conquer territories by winning races. You will also have to defend your territory.  But the turf war goes even further with the ability for you to fight over territories with your friends via Facebook. There will be four locations, five modes (Road Race, Time Trial, Cop Chase, Boss Battle and Drag Race), 12 tracks and a choice between 35 cars.…

Devil Invasion Review

Devil Invasion Review

By now we've not only seen a slew of Bejeweled style games on the iphone, we've also seen games use Bejeweled as a mechanic for other types of gameplay. Devil Invasion is one of these games. Wrapping gem matching up in a castle defense coating, makes for a very interesting play. At the start of each level you can assign three skills to your character (which can be bought and upgraded). These spells require mana which is collected by playing the match three game during the level. This…

Dinosaur Slayer Review

Dinosaur Slayer Review

Dinosaur Slayer by Project Soul wants nothing more than to crush you. Players will find this game quite literally hit-or-miss. Bow-defense fans will get a great new challenge while new players to the genre will find the controls much more forgiving to learn. For most levels there's not a lot out of the ordinary from a standard bow-defense game. Each 'stage' consists of wave after wave of enemies, each with their own quirk to defend against. Arrows are fired by touching the screen to s…

My Brute Review

Review Bulkypix By Dave Flodine, 4 years, 1 month ago
My Brute Review

My Brute is a combat and levellng game in the same genre as games like Mafia Wars. You create a character and academy, and then fight other real opponents around the world to level up, and achieve new techniques and weapons. Like Mafia Wars, you only have a certain number of fights you can engage in each day, but can purchase the ability to play more via ingame DLC. The game is pretty much on auto pilot. The fights themselves are taken care of via the computer and all you can do is wa…

Electric Box Review

Review Candystand.com By Dave Flodine, 4 years, 1 month ago
Electric Box Review

Games like 'The Incredible Machine' were great fun as you got to use a bunch of simple objects to manipulate your way to a goal. Electric Box is quite similar, only the goal is to transfer the flow of electricity from the on switch to the target using different kinds of energy conductors and transferal devices. Control is all touch and drag. The puzzles are layed out on a grid, and all the objects (from steam machines to magnets to lasers) can be placed anywhere, tapped on for a descr…

Speaking of 'Chaos Rings' - First Trailer Released!

I guess Square Enix isn't fooling around with this release. A few weeks after posting new staff at game studio Media.Vision, Final Fantasy Ring picked up on the news and Famitsu got a hold on the game's name, 'Chaos Rings'. Youtube Trailer: Personally I'm blown away by just how good this game looks - easily comparable (if not better) than Final Fantasy 8 on the Playstation. Touch Arcade forum member GDSage has provided more details - and English trailer and screenshots are apparently on the near horizon. News via New Square Enix RPG - Chaos Ring @ Touch Arcade forums.…

ZombieSmash Review

Sure, you could keep throwing knights and goblins and other creepy crawlies in to pits of fire or feed them to your pet dragon, but why do that when you could be enjoying ZombieSmash! by German developer Gamedoctors? With all the charm of games like Plants vs. Zombies and physics inspired mayhem straight out of Home Alone, it's a game that keeps on giving well after you're done with the campaign. In a bid to separate itself from other flick-based castle defense games, ZombieSmash! sho…

Review TwoHeads Games By Andrew Nesvadba, 4 years, 1 month ago
Aftermath Review

If you want to take a more artsy view on 'zombies' in media, you could say that they've been used to represent everything from "man's inhumanity to man" to "convenient comedy sidekick". Aftermath by TwoHeads isn't your average twin-stick zombie shooter, it's almost art. Despite being so short, it's an atmospheric experience that'll remind you just why zombies are so scary. The missions follow a tiny story arc that about your survivor's attempts to navigate through and eventually escap…

FFXIII Image Gallery - Rockefeller Edition?

FFXIII Image Gallery - Rockefeller Edition?

Critics and fans are polarized about just how good Final Fantasy XIII is as the latest major entry in the Final Fantasy series. Square Enix is no stranger to merchandising their products and if you're a fan of their RPGs you might be used to having your wallet gouged, but would you be willing to pay $8.99 for images on your iPhone? Final Fantasy XIII: Larger-than-Life Gallery is just that - a unique collection of artwork and calendars featuring characters from the game. So just how does a set of images (that will no doubt find their way to fan-created sites and forums anyway) end up costing so much? The images are in fact high-definition and can be zoomed in and out of to explore the deta…

'74-Days Of The Smartphone' or 'Just How Well Did They Sell?'

So which smartphone is leading the market? Just how do you judge who's "winning" in this competitive mobile-gadget arena? After compiling sales for the first 74 days of each major smartphone's release, mobile phone analysis firm Flurry has revealed that the Droid sold 50,000 more units than the iPhone in the same period. Flurry blogger Peter Farago provides some insight as to how Motorola might have managed to eke out more sales than Apple for their product (incidentally, 74 days is how long it took Apple to reach 1 million sales from the the iPhone 1G's launch). "Motorola Droid launched over 2.5 years after the iPhone 1G. (Nov 2009 vs. July 2007). When the iPhone launched, consumers' conc…
